DWC First Timer - Day 7 - RQS Fat Banana Automatic & Diesel Automatic

Hello all,

Day 7 in the tent today. Still running with the same res water (55 litres) and no issues that I can spot. The plants look healthy apart from a slight yellow tinge not sure if that’s a problem at this stage. Roots on the Fat Banana are deep in the res and the diesel isn’t too far behind.

Humidity has peaked the last few days due to a heatwave but not a problem it seems in the tent. Temps in the room also climbed a touch higher than preferred. Solution temperature is doing well at 20-21c.

I have very hard tap water and ph sits around 8.5. RO has been suggested by everyone but it’s not possible on this grow.

Advanced Nutrients support staff have recommended following the instructions on the bottle for feed amounts, which I will quarter. They say that the PH Perfect product that I am using will buffer any solution between 4.0 and 8.0, I have tested this on a friends water and although it didn’t hit 5.8 it was sitting comfortably at 6.0 with a starting PH of 7.0. With mine I will need to add the PH down.

PPM: my tap water is high at 500. After 3 days of bubbling it’s down to 300. Lots of scale build up on the side of my second bucket so I’m guessing that’s mainly the calcium?

Adding 15ml of AN nutes to the standby solution today followed by a few hours bubbling and then ph down.

Let me know what you think.

looks good, the reasons your leaves look a little yellow is because the ph has to stay around 5.8 or it will cause problems and wont live as well as early life on dwc girls can just make them grown that way for no damned reason sometimes.

i learned that ph matters the hard way one time just testing to see if it was true or not because i thought it was a ton of crock, but its not. so keep on top of that. check it twice a day and adjust it as needed and you'll be happy. but as you said, you're keeping the ph in check so its all good. I have hard water (well water from the east coast usa), and you see the results of my plants are great, so no worries there. Watching the temp is a big one. I have found that for my dwc during early life, reservoir temperatures are critical to root growth, and you have that down it look like from the root growth.

you're doing a great job, keep it up!
i think i got it all, let me know if i missed something in the post

Thanks @MissUniverse. Yes, I was going to be a bit loose with ph but I’ll try and be spot on 5.8. What do you think of the below grow plan as the plant matures? Can’t remember the exact source but I found it online a couple days ago so i will try and dig out the link.

that chart looks good for a first time grower to use as a guideline for some direction.
to be honest, for me, i leave the temps in the mid 70's and dont really fuss unless it gets into the high 80's and as long as the ph stays between 5.8-6.2 im happy and as far as EC/PPM. i dont even check ec/ppm, i just do res changes every once in a while when i feel it needs it as i go. it kinda just happens, i dont do it at a religious pace, just when the plant kinda has a look to it. Also, to proactively say, with CO2: I don't really bother with CO2 but i dont see any issues with it, my plants breathe the air just fine and do just great and are happy, hunky, dory. i dont even flush, i feel its worthless but to each their own. i havent noticed a difference, but others will say there is a big difference blah blah blah. its a plant which uptakes nutrients, not a superhero who suddenly develops an anaphylactic reaction to Kryptonite
