HI
Ive been so inspired seeing all these fantastic dwc grows I want to give a go at it. I did a bunch of reading and also by using my easy cloner I see the biggest problem is water temps. I looked into a water chiller but at the moment its price prohibitive and havnt figured out a way yet to hook up the chiller and have it go to two buckets. So, I saw this and thought it was a great idea. Using coolers for your bucker. I went to home depot and brought a 5 gal Coleman cooler (its a bit bigger than I thought it would be) and I also picked up a 2gal coleman cooler. For now Im going to go with the 2 gal cooler for first try.
I am going to wash it out real good. Than drill a hole on the side to get the air hose down to the 4" airstone. I also am looking for 4 or 8oz fishing weights to put in some 20oz bottles to keep temps down. I was going to start the seed off in a root riot cube, than straight into net pot where I will keep it moist until its root goes through net pot. Than am going to use AN PH Perfect Nutes.
Does this sound like a sound plan? Any suggestions? The lid of the cooler looks as if it would be hard to cut a hole in top to use as my cover. I also was going to cover black cover with aluminum ducting tape.
Please any suggestions let me know. Was thinking due to its quick and short nature I was going to run a ghazediesel in there. Any other suggestions that would be ok in a 2 gal bucket?

bout the only thing i notice off hand is the lid/net pot , its bigger then the cooler/jug and doesnt seal the rim , watch it all for water running off the lid and down the jug

good luck with it

peace

EDIT : unless im wrong and cant see that the net pot part of the lid ends up fitting snugly inside

First off, well done for daring to try DWC! I'm in the same boat as are a few others I've seen lately. I've been worrying about res temps as well..I was gonna try and find a cooler for the res like you've done but I got the regular 5gal oxypots for free so just going for it :P Nice to see someone having similar ideas and concerns at the same time!
As bob states maybe a smaller netpot would be better but theres nothing stopping you from chopping off the excess and using that one? And the most important advice I've had so far is keeping the PH and EC in check - seems to be a golden rule :D
What air pump do you have? I'm sure you've read up on details etc but just incase I believe you'll need a pump that can match your res i.e 2 gallon res needs a pump that can push at least 2gal per minute (usually done in L but i'm terrible at conversions)
Best of luck with everything Yoda, I'll keep checking back as often as I can - sharing the hydro journey :smokebuds: :peace:

looks like lots of little square light leaks !. Has to be 100% light tight Yoda ,or slime get you will :D:

  I got my head ripped off ($30 a lid to cut hole) but I saved my limbs! Figured it was worth it! Yoda and power tools = potential ER visit... Figured $60 was cheaper than cost of tools and $75 co-pay at ER.

So, I think I am all ready to give DWC a go! I just popped two kvs inside root riot cubes and than going to pop a couple of hr autos and hope they pop (I seem to have bad luck with root riot cubes). I'm going to take one kvs and put her into a 5gal cooler...

Than a HR auto into a 3gal cooler

Zero light leaks possible! 5"'net pot for 5gal and 3 3/4" net pot for 3gal cooler.

Hoping the coolers will take care of temps :)

Can not wait to get some beans to pop!

Sounds good Yoda hope all works out for you. I was at a Festival last night (one we have here local every year) and found a guy here where I live that builds hydro systems I'm going to have him build me a couple 5 gal ones he told me $80 for buckets pump and all. Don't know why I posted this but thought I would share to see if the price was good or not.
