I have a Sativa dominant "massive midget" auto going and have having trouble telling when to harvest. The plant is no midget, and instead of harvesting in 8 weeks, as Heavyweight seeds suggested, it is currently on day 89. If I harvested today, I figure I would get at least 4 oz dry and this is under a 400 hps shared with three other plants. I would estimate only 50% of the hairs are brown on this plant. When scoped one observes the occasional amber head, but the rest run clear, no milky heads. I would estimate 75% of my leaves are yellowish and what worries me is that the margins of my calyxs' are turning pale yellow on many buds...I am tempted to pull now because of this....any thoughts?

With the information given, and no picture? I would say that not all auto's go amber, and the chance of that is less with a Sat dom plant. If it were me I would harvest it. Get something new in the tent ay?

If you had a picture, it would be better.

I actually came home today and the main cola had split and there was mold inside, about 2/3 of the cola had to be thrown away. I was pretty bummed about that.

Things that make ya swear, right?

Was the cola with the mold the only one with the discolored calyx?
I betcha spent a good bit of time studying the rest of the plant for possible mold!

I sure did....I am going to use the salvaged portion of the main cola for edibles, I don't want to take any chances smoking it. I threw away the 2/3 of the cola that was contaminated or in close proximity. I was disappointed at first but overall the yield of this plant is going to surpass my expectations big time. It will be interesting to get the final weight when she dries. As far as the yellow margins on the calyx, this occurred on the top 75% of the plant...I realize now this was a sign of buds becoming over-ripe, so at least I learned something from the experience. The buds are still curing, but I dried a small sample and the high is a nice up sativa high, very unique flavor. I am lucky the quality of the buds was not hurt by waiting a few days too long.

Finally cured enough to get a final weight...156 grams not counting the main cola, which would have added an once and a half I figure. I will have to tell you, I am hooked on autos now! I have never had anything close to this yield growing photo-period plants indoors, it really is amazing.
