I have a plant in coco in a 3 gallon fabric pot that I would likely harvest in the next 1-3 weeks on there. The tent has a strong fan and it has the clip on fans in it and is like 75f with like 60% rh. I found this white around the edge of the top of the coco today. I have done some reading online and it looks like most people say it is ok and not to worry about it. I think it may be Mycorrhizae fungi from the real growers recharge that I watered it with a few days ago. Here are a few images of it.

The plant has organic dry amendments in the coco that I water every day with tap water with calmag with ascrobic acid vitamin c powder that I use to remove chloramine in the water and I do not water to runoff. It had a little white around the edges of the top of the plant for weeks though I thought that was likely salt buildup but now it has this on there. It also has white around the outside edges of the pot that I thought was calcium on there. I did water it with real growers recharge a few days ago that has beneficial microbes in it. I have read that some people say the white mold may be microbes on there?

What would you do? Would you remove the white from the top of the coco or would you try to work it into the coco or would you treat it with something? I have read some people recommend putting cinnamon on it or spray it with white vinegar and water or h202 and water. What would you recommend on there?

If you are only a week or two from harvest, I think your humidity is a tad high. 40-50% would be better at this stage. Your pots also look a bit wet to my inexperienced eye, so I will be interested to hear what more experienced growers have to say.

As far as the "mold" is concerned, if you are that close to harvest, the I expect that the stuff on your soil is unlikely to do damage. I think the risk is mold on your buds, and that may be a problem if pots are being keep too wet or humidity is too high. Worst case is if the species of mold on the soil is able to infect the buds, but I would not know if that is a problem or not. I will be interested in others' opinion here as well.

Good luck with the grow.

Thanks. I think it is likely Mycorrhizae fungi from the recharge that I watered it with on there.

It is fungal mycelium (the body of a fungal organism) but it is absolutely NOT mycorrhizae. It’s likely a strain of bacillus. Myco is under the soil surface and is invisible to the naked eye - it can only be seen under a microscope with the use of a stain. This is a common mistake that people make and read about. Even the maker of Recharge makes claims that you can see mycorrhizae but that’s just factually and scientifically incorrect. If you want to learn about the science of Mycorrhizae, read Jeff Lowenfels’ books or listen to some of the podcasts with him discussing myco. The fact that you have mycelium growing on your soil surface is a wonderful thing and it shows that your soil is alive and healthy!! It is a beneficial fungi because it’s white. It is NOT a mold that will negatively impact your flower. In fact, it will help your plant to fight off some diseases. Not to say you can’t get a disease - just that healthy soil is a great deterrent.

The fact that you have mycelium growing is also NOT an indication that your humidity is too high. It is present because there’s sufficient moisture and a healthy medium. Don’t ever use its presence to judge humidity level or even the moisture level of your medium - unless you’re looking for dry medium, because it wouldn’t grow on an overly dry medium.

You’re doing great from the looks of it. As long as everything else looks good..... KEEP doing what you’re doing!

Thanks. I like the recharge. I think that it works on there.

Thanks. I like the recharge. I think that it works on there.

I use it myself. I alternate with RootWise Microbe Complete and their Bio-Catalyst and aerated compost tea. I like to add as diverse a population of beneficial microbes as I can; but loads of people just use recharge.

Thanks. I am using recharge on 2 new plants that are on week 4 that I am using the biotabs line with and that line has bactrex which looks like it has microbes and it lists to do the bactrex 1 time every 2 weeks and on the off week that I do not do bactrex I do recharge. This is the first grow trying it so I hope it works out. I plan to start also watering with coconut water when I do the weekly bactrex and recharge water on there.
