Hey everyone, I typically do photo strains, but just ordered some auto seeds. I want to make my own seeds, I've read how to do it.
One thing I cannot find, is it more common for some traits to follow the female or male qualities?
For instance, I bought big yield strain, and gorilla glue. Both auto. I want big gorilla glue, not gorrilla size with big yield strength.
Does it matter which female I force male?
Any other tips for doing this would be appreciated. Thanks in advance!
I'm hoping for at least 200 seeds

Phenotypes. I'm messing with x ing gg and time warp. Planted 30 of these offspring seeds gorilla time. After getting rid of early weed like males got reasonable male , but still had to store in reduced light and cool temp in order to wait for female. Then I culled the weed like females and runts. Was left with 6 possible mates these pheno were classed as early, medieum and late flower. Tried to breed early flower . I find reg seed way easier to deal with then femed seed except you have to plant more then u need to grow because of males

Mating two plants is just like 2 people mating. You get some of both,, a little more of a little less sometimes breeders pick the one that grows how they like .fast .for color .for smell

I'm sure there is a wealth of information on here. I'm not very good with the search. Maybe @Mañ'O'Green or someone with more experience can point me to some important threads on breeding.

Also, if I just sprayed one female with silver on the top cola, would I get good S1 seeds on the rest of the plant? I read somewhere they are more likely to Hermie.

Hi @Snib247 Yes that is how feminized seed is produced. The tendency for a S1 to hermie is largely dependent on the stability of the origin plant. If you do as you propose all of the female plants exposed to the pollen will be seeded. Also future plants in the tent will be seeded if you do not clean it well enough. It sounds easy and can be but much can go wrong. I think a lot of failures stem from poor genetics to start and seeds not allowed to mature fully. Search Google as there is much to learn and several ways to do it.

theoretically, there are some genes only/mostly coming from the mother.

those are the mitochondrial and chloroplast dna. similar to humans, egg-cells are relatively big and contain everything a cell normally contains, including the mitochondria(and in case of plants, chloroplasts too), and those have their own dna. spermcell is small and contains mostly just the nucleus, so the nuclear dna both parents contribute just as much, but the dna outside the nucleus comes mostly from the mother. in plants it's ofcourse not exactly the same with egg and sperm, but the same principle aplies that the male part is mostly just nucleus.

however most genes are in the nucleus, and the genes that are in the mitochondria/chloroplasts are most likely coding for some fundamental stuff to make those function, not any traits you'll select for(like taste, potency, etc are very likely to be in the nuclear dna, not in the mitohondria or chloroplast. but maybe genes n the chloroplast or mitochondria could have a slight effect on vigour).

so practically you can assume both parents give 50%, but in theory there can be some exceptions.
