For my next grow I want to go with a cheap base medium with no nutes in it because I want to apply my general organics nutes from the beginning of the grow. It would save me a lot of money if I could get something simple from Lowes. I was looking at Lowes' website at Fafard's Peat. Something like this do me? Some perlite...anything else? I am going to amend with some ingredients from my G.O.box before I plant. I just need a cheap base really. Thanks.

Try promix if you can get it or straight peat with added perlite. You can add a little lime for ph.

If ya can find promix or sunshine pro...go for it...lowes in our area is sparse for finding a nuteless soil.......but nuteless soil doesn't mean you should use nutes from the start. Most, including me, use no nutes whatsoever for 2-3 weeks....been using humboldt or sunshine pro for years....

I would also suggest using either Pro Mix or Sunshine Mix. They are basically peat, perlite, lime and starter nutrients. While some Lowes and Ace Hardware stores carry it, all don't. Better chance of finding it at a nursery or green house supply. All these items can be bought separately and mixed yourself, but I think by the time you buy each separately you can buy a bag of Pro Mix for less. The 2.8 liter loose fill bags are about $12 where I buy mine. 3.8 cu. ft. compressed bales run about $28.

If for some reason you cannot find any of the above, I have been using Vital Earth's Manna Mix for a while now, it's a coco based soil with very little as far as nutes but there are traces enough to get you through a couple three weeks with most any strain Photo or Auto... :peace: :smokeit:

Okay I just ordered Botanicare CocoGro. It was all I could find in my price range really. $32 for 18gal. Free shipping! That is the problem trying to find something without the shipping breaking you. This will be my first coco grow too. I think I'll like it better than peat. I need to read up on coco a little bit. Any tips or sticky's I need to know about? I know this stuff I bought is pre-washed to get salts out. About all I know about it.

Poops cocogro is what im useing now. Its pretty good stuff i think its the next best to canna coco. I would still wash it though. When i washed mine if i remember right it had 300-400 ppm of salts. I dont know how much u know about useing coco but it can be a lil tricky. It retains cal and mag and it natrualy puts out its own K. Plush i have found that plants like a little lower ppm in the coco. In my opinion coco is awsome i bet ur gonna luv it. Just make sure to use around 200 ppm calmag and go light on nutes and really light on the bud boosters. I usualy go around 1/4 strength with bud boosters. Good luck with the cocogro. Ill be lookin forward to seeing how it.does for u
