I listened to a bit on NPR the other day, they talked about how much corn grows at night. Turns out it can grow so fast at night it actually makes noise doing it and they had made a recording. It held my attention since I've always been around cornfields, done my share of night fishing and camping etc. but never heard the corn growing although I remember the old folks saying you could sometimes.

So...what do my cannabis plants do in the dark ? Rest ? Grow ? Caress each other ?

Secrete sugars in their roots to feed the bacteria living in the rhizosphere that are important symbionts for nutrient transport, among other things.

Hmm, I am not so sure but I keep my plants on 24/0 and none really seem to be bothered for not having darkness. Maybe corns need darkness more than cannabis plants do?

Corn is a different plant than Cannabis. What corn does overnight ain't necessarily much of an indication of what cannabis does.

Anyway, in response to your question, I do not know what my cannabis plants get up to during their, in my case, 4 hour night. Whatever they do seems to make little difference from the previous grow in which the girls never got a chance to try night time.
