Hi,

My question is this: I had a lemon skunk hermie on me and it polinated one bud of my Northen lights auto, it only produced one viable seed- would the seed be a female auto or a random regular?

Thanks peeps

Edit: the skunk was a photo not a auto

U would most likely catch a hermie seed ...im not a pro but read some places that hermies throw hermies ...
Don't quote me tho bro
I'd toss it in the trash

I was under the impression that's only true it the hermie pollinates itself? And hermies pollinating other fems is how the whole female seeds industry started.

Welcome to AFN. You would most likely have about a 25% chance of it being an auto and a much higher chance of it being a hermie. Sex would be 50/50. Personally, I wouldn't grow any seeds from a hermie plant.

Let me be clear it wasn't a hermie polinating itself and I've read about 10 hours worth of stuff on this and most agree the higher chance of hermies comes from self pollination, or is what I've been reading wrong? And if it is wrong how are fem only seeds made if not from a hermie be it a forced hermie via chemicals or otherwise pollinating a fem?

442,
Yes, you have a higher chance of a female seed and you also have a higher chance of being a hermie. I read an article once called breeding with hermie. And in it, the majority amount of the work done was breeding the hermie back out. But you are right, this is how female seeding started. But now people just use colloidal silver. There are a few people around here that are experts at it. I know how to make it and have made it, but I have yet to use it.

The worst thing that ever happened to pot seed reputation came from thinking you can get away with a half hermie seed line. You need a extra high stress resistant plant that you force to hermie or your breeding in auto morph or low stress morph. But if you just got a seed and are watching it close- well then it's your play ground, have fun!

:2cents:the gene is the gene is the gene..........if you run it or not it's your choice, most people don't want to waste the space with somthing that could possibly mess up the rest of there grow...If your on it and can catch it if it get's some balls then go for it.....I wold't breed with it till you know either way.:2cents:

Not to piss on anyone's parade. There is some old school thinking going on that says, sensimilla breeding is ruining all the old landrace strains. There are not that many originals left. These people are of the opinion that we should do something, to keep as many strains as possible in thier original form. Which means Hermaphrodite.

Not my opinion, just my two cents

Eek

imo your 10 hours of reading was done on old articles/posts

you could have spent much less time reading here to find out modern fems arent made from "chemical forced hermies" but are in fact made from reversing a female to a male , an actual male that only passes on the female chromosome , NOT a hermie

if your growing it by it self or like others mentioned able to watch it closely then its up to you to grow it , i wouldnt advise it though

in 30+ years i have seen more then my fare share of hermies in my gardens , only once has the offspring not been hermie prone

when fems first began they were hated and bad mouthed by the majority of growers , and for good reason , most were useing hermies or not stress testing thier plants to be able to only breed with true females or hermie resistant plants, a lot has changed in the last 10 years , autos now compare and even surpass a lot of photo strains both in potency and amazingly enough in yeild as well , and fems from someone who does it right are 100% fems and hermie free

one thing you have sorta right is a hermie pollinating itself makes for full blown hermie offspring , but that same hermie does in fact pass on the hermie trait in the offspring from other plants as well

the seeds i got from a hermie once that didnt produce hermie offspring i would never use for further breeding

the choice is yours , but honestly when (yes unfortunately when) i find any hermie seed or unknown reason for there being a seed i toss em now and have for quite some time

peace
