My current grow room is 2.5 ft wide and 4.4 ft deep, about 11 square feet. I am running two 300 watt mars-hydro leds ( actual draw 170 each) and I have (8) 23 watt cfl's hanging in between lights. I assume the cfls are not giving that much actual grow wattage because they are just hanging without reflectors in 4 plug adapters. I am putting my watts per square foot conservatively around 40 watts. Everything is growing fine.

My problem is that I planted to many plants to start and my grow space is filling up and it would be easier if the width of space was wider than the depth as far as watering and moving plants, etc... I could easily increase my grow space to 4.5ft deep and 3.6ft by removing a false wall that I put in. I will eventually buy another light but it will most likely be a few months from now.

My question is that I see these commercial grows sitting in a big rooms under different lights and watts per square foot does not seem to be such an issue. I have two leds so I could hang one directly over two plants each. I would really like the extra square footage to allow for work space and giving plants more room. Any opinions would be greatly appreciated.

Hi! Extra space is always good. And extra lights! I just woke up and kinda missed the specific question. As long as lighting schedules are the same in the room you need no divider between lights.

From what i have read and seen with big led grows is they hang the lights so far apart to get the same coverage in between the lights so everything grows the same.

If you lost the CFL, you'd still have plenty of light. I doubt they make any difference at all.
Are you tying your plants so they are more spread out, and get more light? That might be something to consider.

I have been doing some light lst. I was thinking with the few extra square feet I could use the cfl's to start seedlings and early growth in the corner. Also, I know it will drive me crazy worrying about it and I will buy another light or two sooner than I probably would have otherwise. I appreciate the help.

50 watts/sq ft is about as good as it gets, and you've got that.

It's possible to push things a little with more light, but personally, I don't see the point.
You might want to make a place for seedlings, you've already got extra lights.

LED penetration being not so great I use locate cfls down low to help out the lower growth.
