Ok so i have 4 plants lr2 s in 10liter pots they are a month old. when I use a watering can I over water so I've been using a sports bottle holds a pint . Yesterday I gave them 1/2 a pint each thinking I wouldn't need to water today just been in to check and the soil looks dry ? It's now 5.30 pm I normally water in the am but I'm thinkin I should b watering now there under a250w sont plus lamp in a grow box good ventilation any comments welcome thanks

i would think that over watering would not be a big issue if you have proper drainage in your soil. You might want to add more perlite to your mix and make sure your pots have drainage holes. You do want to get about 10 to 20 percent run off when watering.

I've been sticking my finger into the soil down to the second knuckle ,
if it feels dry, then I water until I see some water oozing out the bottom.
this plant will sit and drain in the bathtub while I water another.
by doing all his moving about
you will also notice the difference in weight between a watered plant
and a plant that needs watered...:2cents:

^^ This ^^ If you have a similar container to the one you are using, you can fill it up with your medium. Compare the weight of it dry to your potted plants. Make sure you have plenty of holes for drainage. In addition, make sure your soil is not heavy in peat. Peat hold water much longer and can be deceptive. Happy growing!

I'm going to ask about your drainage. You didnt mention anything about the water draining. Are there holes on the bottom of your pot? Do you notice water draining out the bottom if there are holes. If you have proper drainage there should be no problem of over watering unless you water too frequently. Let us know.

Watering is easy if you have proper drainage. I use airpots and smart pots and its virtually impossible to overwater those, but if your using a normal pot then drainage should not be a issue either. The pick up method never fails. Pick it up and its heavy means no need to water, light its time to water. Let it dry out a little between waterings.

Ok I have a relative that grows he told me to put 2inches of stones in the bottom of the pots I did they have drainage holes the soil is John innes no 2. Since I wrote the post have been out and watered even thou I normally water in the a.m I picked up the pots and they were very light they also had a gap in the soil around the outside ! So I watered till I got small amount of run off . Do most people water every day or is it just a case of checking ? Thanks again we will see what 2m brings 4 plants taking over my life lol

I water mine every 3 days, but each time i water i get a good bit of run off, i use smart pots and use 18 liters of perlite per 25lbs of soil. So my soil drains really well

I think your making more of it then it really is. You water when they need it sometimes its every day if there big and developed sometimes once every 5 days if there little. Watering is very simple.
