I got a letter from British Gas yesterday asking to arrange an appointment to have a Smart Meter installed at my house.

Should I be concerned? The letter states that they will get two daily updates showing exactly how much Electricity I am using and at what times of the day. Has anyone actually been caught by their Electricity company grassing them up before or is that just a myth?.

I use approximately 1000w for 16 hrs a day.

Your opinions are muchly welcome and valued :toke:

I got one deleiverd in the post, it connects to the WiFi, its good because you can see what electricity you use, with my 250w set uo i use 6p and hour, when the ps3 is on it doubles and when i make a cup of tea it skyrockets! lol
I never had mine installed from BG though? Strange? But i shoudnt worry about it, 1000w is nothing compared to some peoples electricity consumption.

My oil heater alone eats up 1500w. Got a smaller crappeir thermoventilator that eats 2000W.
A desktop PC 450-650w

If you pay your bills and cover up the "night" time with something close to your 1000w, there is no way they can find out

We have a little fryer and i looked on the back, start up is 1500w then at full its 3000w. Makes you wonder how many lights you could actualy run..

the key to remaining undetected is to establish a high usage from the outset and you should not have a problem.

also ensure your night time usage falls in line with everyone else(ie everything is off when you sleep), so if your dark period is in the daytime switch it to night time

you should be fine with 1000w consumption

fryers kettles and electric heaters/cookers use big amounts of electric but only for a short period of time which is why you need to keep an eye on things, if you are using more than 2kw (2000w) per hour for extended periods then you will raise suspicion unless you have a 5 bedroom house or larger so stay under that for safety.

Be safe:peace:
