Hi all, have used this method in the past when i have been away for a few days to keep a eye on my grow and make sure my nephew was not messing with my plants. I will explain in detail below how to get setup and all you will need, and also how you can share your stream with any friends you want while still keeping the stream private.

What You Will Need

Android Phone (SIM Card not needed if using Wifi)
Phone charging cable if away for a while
Wifi connection (can use mobile data but without a unlimted data plan will cost alot and require a SIM card)
Tripod or stand to hold phone in place (optional)

Getting Setup And Started

Firstly you will to install the "Bambuser" app onto the Android phone you want to use as the camara, this can be downloaded from the playstore at the following link.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.bambuser.broadcaster

Once installed open "Bambuser" and create a new account, there is no email confirmation to register so you can use any email address you wish and also the same for the country field, all you will need to remember is the username and password you choose.

Once your account us created , you will be sent back to the app and be logged in. Now you will need to change a few settings to make your stream private, and to improve quality. To access these settings check the below pic.

The first set of settings are the "Quality Related Settings" these can be setup however you want it, and are self explanitory, for slower internet connections is best to use the lower settings and to switch off audio.

The next set of settings "Information Related Settings" are the ones you will need to change to make sure nobody else can see what is being streamed from your phone and keep it private. For the title of the broadcast you can name it anything you like, unless you want to save your stream for later viewing uncheck "Archive Broadcasts", now make sure "Broadcast In Private" is checked and that "Broadcast Location" is NOT checked, as shown in the below example.

Thats the setup of the app done and you are now ready to stream.

Connecting And Streaming

Now you will need to get your phone setup in your grow room, you will need to have it connected to a power supply with the charging cable if you are planning to be away for more than a couple of hours or your battery is going to drain fast. I use a tripod to hold the phone in place, but you can use just about anything you want as long as it stays in place.

The phone is also going to be needed to connected to the internet i use my home wifi connection, you could use mobile data but if you dont have some kind of unlimited data plan it will cost alot to stream video, so is not recommended in most cases.

Once you have your phone in place and connected to the internet you can start the live stream, open up the "Bambuser" app again and press the big red record button and the stream will start.

Accessing Your Live Stream

Now you have your live stream going you can access it through any mobile or pc browser, all you need to do is go to http://bambuser.com/ and login using the same details you used when setting up the account on your phone.

A5.jpg

Once logged in you will be taken straight to your profile page and the stream will be viewable from there as you can see in the example pic below from the setup i showed earlier.

This is also a good time to check to make sure your stream is private and nobody else can view it, this can be done by right clicking on the link just above your stream "Watch On Broadcast Page" and copy the url, then either log out of your account or open a different browser which you are not logged in and paste the link and try to load the page, if you have got the privacy settings correct you will not be able to view your stream when you not logged in and get a error.

Sharing Your Private Stream With Friends

Even when your stream is private, you still have the option to share it with friends, this can be useful for showing someone something about your grow, or just to share your plants time with someone you know. To be able to have the option to share with someone you will both need to be following each other on Bambuser, to follow someone login to your Bambuser account as before and in the search bar at the top type in the username of your friend and click the magnifying glass to find them, choose your friends username from the search results and then click on follow on their profile page, your friend will also need to do the same to follow you.

Once you are both following each other, all you need to do to share your stream is when streaming from your phone tap on the share icon in Bambuser, then choose "Bambuser Friends" then check the name of the friend/friends that you want to share your stream with.

Once your friend is set to be able to view your stream, all they need to do is login to Bambuser and your stream will available to them for viewing.

Happy Growing

Cheers bro,

Yeah give it a go, great way to give you a piece of mind that all is good while away. Hate it when i have to leave any of my girls if even for a day.

Thanks,

Is nothing after the amount of info i have taken off of the forum, just wanted to give a bit back. I may be a bit of a noob when it comes to growing, but have got over 10 years experience in mobile phones and computers and is what i do for a living.

As you said is a great way to recycle old phones, the one i have got in the pic is a old Samsung S3 that my daughter smashed the screen to bits on.
