So I've been reading about trichomes. The different types. The different purposes they serve...etc. And several days ago I noticed my baby's leaves were ... well... frosty looking. I've seen people mention their girls being frosty, but have never really seen it on one so young. My girl is only 12 days old today and she has had a rough week. So the self defense purpose makes sense here, and I decided to look closer. I'm also now wondering how many of you have seen this on your girls and what it had meant long term for production/ potency. Increase or decrease? Thoughts?

Damn... I'm ashamed this went so long with no reply! So sorry EoW!

Ok to answer your question... I have seen that more times than I can remember or count lol and that typically means you're gonna have some DANK ass bud lol its a good thing and sign.

However. There's been one occasion when that happened and the bud was crappy. So I'm keen... What's this you mention about a defense mechanism? To stress? Nice post and again sorry this fell thru the cracks. Fascinating subject.

The jack herer I'm currently growing was stressed in some way at the end of week 2. She was a scary sight. Her first set of true leaves started getting spots that looked like lens burn. That was also right around the time the trichomes started to appear. I'm a complete newb to growing, so it's hard for me to say what happened there. It was pretty strange. She's been completely healthy since. Never had spots on other leaves, no temp changes, never attacked by any bugs of any kind. (I use Ceylon cinnamon on my soil so the bugs go anywhere but near her). The only stress she had that I can think of was having had helmet head for almost the entire first week. She has stayed coated in a Frosty layer and has a good strong odor. The trichs that were on the spots though.. I got a couple close ups of them. They seemed to be more mature than the others. The trichs are a layer of defense against certain insects and temp fluctuations, I had read somewhere. Lol... it was several weeks ago now so I can't say where exactly.

Hmmm your grow is well documented... I'm guessing the pics of that are there. Let me go looking for them. That will give me a better idea of what that could have been. Because the way she looks now... I wouldn't believe you telling me that lol that plant looks pristine now!

Lol. They're there. It's kind of funny at this point. The two spotted leaves are still on her too! They slowly turned back a darker shade green, but the spots stayed. She was scary looking!!

Leaf damage is not repairable. If its needing N it will get green when corrected but damage is permanent. But its a good way to judge whether you've corrected the problem or not. You know... If it stops you're good. If it continues you know you got more work to do...

It was weird I think because it started and she was barely a week old. Autoflowers don't usually need anything the first couple weeks do they?

Well that depends entirely on your medium. Refresh my memory on yours... If you please..

Myself I feed from the moment I sow the seeds because I use promix hp.. Its just peat moss, perlite, and vermiculite. So I add myco and worm castings but they get about 2ml per gallon of grow and literally a drop of rapid start. I pour my nute mix over the area I sow and week one they get it again. I only give them plain water for a few days. From the time they pop out (around day 3) til day 7... But again that's my set up. Everyone is different...

Fox farm coco loco potting mix with added coco coir and perlite. ingredients' are composted forest humus, coco coir, perlite, earthworm castings, fossilized bat guano, Norwegian kelp meal, oyster shell and dolomite lime (for pH adjustment), as well as beneficial bacteria and mycorrhizae.

Here she is when things got weird.

Hmmm. Looks like necropsy.. Almost like it was dampening off? Did it get too cold for it? How long was the shell on?
