Grow Mediums Trial of Firsts

I'd be running them at 18-24" personally, those light do not have the power to be run a 48"! And according to Barney's Farm, these plants max out about 3ft tall. You should be able to scrog in about another week

Thanks @pop22 Appreciate your input. I kind of forgot that I selected these strains for the stocky, short nature of their genetics.

A meter is really the only way to tell the sweet spot. In flower (if I am remembering correctly) they like 700+ ppfd with most running 800 - 1000 before co2 supplement. Veg is closer to 200-300. I have to run my lights at 2'-3' and at 30% in veg or I stress them out and bleach them. Yours don't look stressed at all so I think you have your height set pretty well.
You can increase stretch by increasing your far red to red ratio. I am adding this to induce faster sleep at the end of lights on for like 15 min. http://www.rapidled.com/far-red-initiator-puck/ It can also be used to increase the far red ratio. That puck covers a 3x3 I think.

That's a pretty cool looking device. There's no getting around the fact my LED's are cheapo's. The sweet tooth has been behind/slow since germination. She is slowly catching up but the 8 Ball is starting to get some more vertical stretch so I think I am just impatient!! Appreciate the post and the info. Going to study up on this far red to red ratio. Thanks.

@Sensi Jay I have them at 30" which is as high as they have been and I do believe I am noting some vertical growth. I'll get a photo up later today but the 8 Ball is starting to gain height. For the first few weeks I had them as low as 18" with no ill signs except the bushy, stocky growth. Prob take me a grow or two to dial these led's in.

Seedlings went into Autopots on June 7th (29 days ago); Air Domes and Res turned on June 13th (23 days ago)

Feeding 6ml/gal GH Micro; 9ml/gal GH Bloom; .47g/gal Epsom Salt

No pumps or aeration in Res and pH is 5.9; pH in Autopots is 6.0

I topped both plants once on the main stem after five sets of true leaves (the tops and shoots are too numerous to count)

They continue to be bulky and stout but vertical growth still seems slow to me although I am beginning to see a bit of vigor in the smaller plant (right).

I had my lights as high as 34" but six days ago I lowered them back to approx 19"

They look great. :cooldance:

Thanks for taking a look folks.
I am baffled by the lack of vertical growth ( i know I sound like a broken record).
I've begun some LST to try and open up the center of the plants to let more light through.
I suppose they are of a type that even if they stay small and I can't scrog them, they will have some impressive tops none the less.

I absolutely hate the unexplained lack of vertical growth I get with autos sometimes. I'm always wondering, did I stunt it, does have something do do with the intensity of my lights, is it some environmental or genetic aberration. So many possibilities and eventually I harvest the couple ounces it produces and move on hoping to get it right next time. :smoking:

PS
I am blitzed out of my mind right now on some Geapefruit Auto. And your girls look beautiful otherwise.
