Ok, in another post I explain how I had an auto tent going, 2x4 with two Mars TS600's and one Mars TS1000. And in this auto tent I had a Critical Mass plant that was labelled as an auto, but turned out to be a photo period. So she was getting too big and I wanted another tent anyway so I got a 2x3 tent and needed a new light.

Scoured Amazon, was gonna buy another Mars hydro but didn't want to spend $200 on a Mars TS1000. So I stumbled across a Topsun TS1000 (yes they us the TS acronym as well). The PPFD chart was in between a Mars 600 and a 1000 but the price was $85!! So I thought let's give it a try for $85 I can almost buy three of these for the price of one Mars TS1000.

Well the Topsun TS1000 came in two days and unboxing I must say it was packages very well and the construction of this light is quality. The light is mounted on a thick slab of aluminum with a driver mounted on top. The driver has a dimmer that goes from OFF to 100%. It has real Samsung LED's.

It also come with a digital thermometer/humidity, a pair of sunglasses, two ratchet straps (BONUS) and two hanging straps with buckles. All this stuff for $85!! C'mon other light MFG, if Topsun can sell a decent light like this with all these accessories for $85 why can't you.

Plugged it in a the tent lit up. I will say as per the PPFD chart I do feel this light performs right in between a Mars 600 and 1000. Very very happy with this and I will definitely buy another of these for the same tent to give more boost to flowering stage.

IMHO I think lights are the one area you don't skimp on. In no way am I implying you did this. That Topsun will have a lot of uses but probably not enough light to flower out that big girl in the photos. It's a great looking light and you got a nice deal on it. I especially like the dimmer.

I tend to agree. But I needed something inexpensive to get her to flower. One of my auto's in my other tent is maybe a week from harvest. When she's harvested I'll move one of the Mars 600's to this tent to help out the Topsun. The other two autos in my other tent will still have a Mars 600 and Mars 1000 to finish them off, so should be plenty of light. Eventually I'll get something else, maybe another one of these Topsun's for this tent. Two of them would be lots of light for this tent. It's about all you could fit. What I really want to do with this second tent is when this plant is done I want to turn this into a seedling tent. And then when I harvest from the bigger tent I move the seedlings over and dry the harvest in this tent, as I need to filter the smell and can't hang the harvest out in the open in my house.

Critical Mass is getting BIG and finally starting to bloom!! Yay!! I know this light is a bit small for the size of this plant, hope to add another to the tent in the coming week(s). But I gotta give it credit, CM is thriving in this tent with this light. Check out the pics, they don't lie.

I tried to set up a SCROG net, but she is too far gone to make that happed properly so I took it out before I got too far. Instead I made two tie-backs on either side and pulled her main branches apart a bit to let more light hit more areas within. I also did some minor defoliation to again get some light into the plant a bit better, less shadows. Seems to have worked well.

Well now in those photos the light doesn't look dwarfed by the plants. It would do a good job maturing the flowers at the top and a bit down into the canopy. But as you said it would greatly benefit you to add another light.

Something I have become a big fan of since starting it is lollipopping a plant just prior to flipping it. I generally remove all growth on all the branches on about the bottom 30% of the plant. It allows the plant to push that much more energy to the top of the plant. Have you tried this and if so what are your thoughts of lollipopping a plant?

what are your thoughts of lollipopping a plant?
Yes, well in my previous photo grows I like the SCROG method, lots of tops filling out the entire tent with the use of a net. And when I do that I do foliate all leaves below the screen 100% and I'll take selectively above the screen. But in this particular grow these seeds were labelled autos so I didn't realize they were photo until over 60 days in with no flowering. So it was a bit late for me to start really doing any low or high stress training with her as she was pretty big and ready to flower, just needed 12/12 lighting. I could have vegged longer but she was gonna get too big for my tent. So she'll grow as is, and yes I will do more selective defoliation but for the most part she's gonna be fairly natural low impact grow.

However, I have two more Critical Mass seeds, and seeing how lovely of a plant she is and how easy her temperament is, I'll be growing the next two CM seeds in a SCROG setup and fill my tent with three at the same time with more training along the way.

Pretty frickin' nice indeed. I might have to upgrade to one of those lights, looks like it does a much better job than my current "600w" (actually 100w from the wall) Phlizon blurple. Nice job!✌

@Crossfader , just to be clear, I had the Topsun alone on it for some time, but a short time after it started to flower and for about a week now I have a Mars 600 and the Topsun on it. I doubt the Topsun (or Mars 600) alone would be enough to get great flower results on this big girl in a 24 x 30 tent. BUT, I will say I'm very impressed with this sub $100 light. Why I would need to spend more!

Understood. I think it would do well since I only grow 1-2 plants in 2x2x4 tent. It's certainly better than what I've got...and nearly the same price. Until I can upgrade to bigger tents, lights ect. that light would definitely be a step up. ✌
