So i was going through my old imgur album and found my Dr Feelgood pics from a few years ago where as a test i decided to top her.

As usual a stoner had forgot all about and didn't post results! derp! :smoking:

So here it is, the strain was Dr Feelgood and I topped her around day 14. From these results i decided to top a fair few more autos and the results were almost in favour of topping, with just a few strains not responding well to the shock factor and slowing down.

Yes my results are anecdotal BUT imho you can top autos, especially the strains with single cola dominance like dominate indicas. As long as you top them around 10-14 days after seed below the 3rd node, just like id did with the Dr Feelgood. I found that it reduces the stress, sometimes no stress at all and after a few days the new nodes begin their ascent to apical dominance. I also usually leave the the node under it to grow so it becomes a 4 cola plant and chop the very first node growth.

There is no reason why it shouldnt start to grow very quick, after all the plants now focusing all its energy on these new growth tips on the nodes!

I currently have a cobra and onyx growing, one was topped and the other wasnt and the cobra with its 4 colas are currently twice the size of the onxy which i am training.

Topping an auto pics.

I think to some extent you can trim ,prune the growing tip and get bigger plants or bushier plants and bigger yeilds, but I think it will come at the price of time, as it will set the plant back....Kinda like growing basil...if you keep pinching off the bud before it develops it will keep sending out more shoots...but thats just a guess

I think timing is everything kind of like you mentioned.

It's all in what the individual wants and needs. I choose to let my auto's do their own thing because I am not particularly fond of promoting additional trauma to the shorter life span auto. I am a firm believer in utilizing lights around the clock, others not so much. The same growing schwerve doesn't apply across the board and I think that is ultimately a positive aspect for growers in general. More info means more available tweaks.

I've had some excellent results topping.

I topped both a Northern Light Blue & a Big Bud x Northern Light (A 2 plant grow under a 250w dual spectrum HPS) and achieved 1g/w

But, as previously mentioned, it's all in the timing...

I`m against topping - it causes stress to the plant and stalls growth. Just use right nutrients and environment and plant will branch out with many colas itself.

There's a massive thread(96 pages) on 420mag forums on topping a AF plant, and the results seems to be outstanding. I'll have a go next round fo' sure..
I don't remember the rules about posting links on this forum, but if not ok, the mods can surely remove the link?
