So, I'm looking for other's experiences on the subject of topical (salves) applications, and getting actually high from it. Have you ever had it happen?

Here's the scoop. So I made an incredibly potent coconut oil from the entire plant. Leaves, stems, popcorn and "useless" buds. Decarbed the entire thing, shredded it, and steeped it in a mason jar for 4 hours. Strained out the oil, and froze it into ice cube trays, each being about 1 tablespoon. Then I mixed 8 ounces (by weight) of infused oil to 1 ounce (by weight) of beeswax. This is my common mix. I've never experienced what I did afterwards. So I warmed the oil to melt, and melted the wax, combined the two. Filled my various containers, had about 10mL left over. My knee was just KILLING me so I figured, rather than waste it, I'd use it. I applied it to my knee. I have no open wounds on my hands or knee, so I have NO idea why this happened. But about 15 minutes later I would SWEAR I was higher than I've been in forever. Uncomfortably high. The room spun like I had vertigo, and I had to get air. I washed the remaining from my leg and went for a walk. When I came back, I laid down and the room was just SPINNING. This was for about half an hour. No other symptoms. When I came down, I came down hard, and the rest of the day has been just fine, mentally, although my knee was basically PERFECT for a good 8 hours afterwards. No residual mental effects or anything.

Have any of you ever experienced this? I thought full well, without entering the bloodstream, that getting functionally high from a topical was almost impossible. Does it have to do with tolerance? I'm a next-to-none user, so is it possible that I simply used too much and tipped the scales?

The ancient hebrew anointing oil chrism was made by boiling 8 or more lbs of flowering kaneh bosem tops along with other herbs and perfumes in oil for quite some time. Likely olive oil. This would create a concentrate that was smeared on the foreheads of followers. Literally the power of god the ancients felt when they were anointed was produced by cannabinoids.

I read you cannot get high from topicals... :pop:

It makes sense that rubbing a decarbed cannabis oil on your skin could get you high. However that is not typically the case.
I have heard that the transdermal patches are designed to get you high and they are placed on your skin. Possibly the high concentration of thc in one place for a long period of time, whereas the topicals are absorbed and dispersed in muscle and soft tissue.

Decarbed, the thc does not attach to the cb2 receptors in your body but easily breaks the blood/brain barrier.
thca does not attach well to the cb1 receptors in your brain, but does have the anti inflammatory properties.

So, if enough thc gets into your blood stream, you could get high, but it would not treat the knee issue as well as thca, which is not decarbed.

You will test positive on a drug test when using topicals if enough thca gets to your liver to convert to thc.

However that is not typically the case...transdermal...

I tend to agree with you, Root. I've made many different topical formulations, looking for the best absorbtion and neither I or my extended family has gotten high. I was concerned that a DMSO formula might, but luckily it did not.

Those transdermal patches probably have some pretty advanced chemistry, like a modified THC molecule and a more advanced transporter than DMSO.
