I make a lot of seeds, a LOT. I've noticed that seeds that I make myself tend to have much lower germination rates than seeds I buy commercially. They are big dark stripey seeds that look glorious, but less than half of my seeds ever pop.

What are some tips you guys have to improve that deficiency? Be it harvest, storage, germination, etc. Inquiring minds want to know.

I am in the process of making my first auto seeds and have just posted a new thread about auto seeds and how long before you harvest. With photo plants they say 4-5 weeks after pollination, I wait for 6-7 weeks. I've also pollinated a whole plant and waited until the seeds were falling off and I usually have 80%-90% success rate when germinating.
how long after pollination do you harvest your seeds and what strain. I imagine strain would play a little part in when to harvest seeds.

Let the plant that is seeded go aslong as possible for big fat beans. I then dry them in paper envelopes for 4 weeks in a cool dry place.i then put them in the freezer for 24hrs minimum and store in tje fridge . 90%+ germ rate always. Had some from almost 3 yrs ago still popping!

Do you soak them in water before you place in paper towel to germinate or do you start in soil right from seed?
I've also heard of people gently cracking the shell on some seeds that are difficult to pop, they say the shell is to hard.

I have had about 90% rate.
I let the pollinated plant go as long as possible.

I have started just soaking my seeds till they pop. A few months ago I started 4 seeds in a cup of water with a few drops of superthrive and then forgot about them for 4 days. They had full 1 1/2 roots and I dropped them into the cubes and they never missed a beat.

I am now skipping the coffee filter in Tupperware step.

The 3 on the right are my self made Blackberry gum from Seedstockers. These are S1.
I made a bunch of different crosses with the flipped BBG..

The back left is a Seedstockers BCN critical Xxl that was started a week before the other 3 and is refusing to flower.

I've heard lots of p & k in flower, like when we push, will cause thick husks. Might try the matchbox with sandpaper trick to score the seeds slightly prior to germ.
Next round is a seed round for me, back to soil, and just enough to keep them healthy, and run them long.

I've made lot of both fem and reg the biggest thing is letting them go long enough and letting them cure just like the buds they need time now I will say I can germ seeds right off a live plant but but my 95% germ rate is with around 4wk dry/cure with ones right off plants goes down to 50% 60% also check the opposite end of the tap root side it should be a nice lol in dent like on a golf tee everyone that has f-ed up has not been even or its not round ect that makes a big difference
