Working on first grow inside a SJ DR60II. Running LED 240 Blackstar. Doing this closet inside a closet inside an apartment so i wanna keep it as quiet as possible. So i am looking for any little tips in order to keep my secret, a secret. I also got an air stone bubbling in the closet :hump: The blackstar is pretty loud if i leave all the doors open and im in the room. Not a big deal i can deal with some. Waiting on my scrubber and 4"inline i got a speedster so i hope it helps when it gets here.:amazon:
Right now i found a grow bright duct fan 6" just wondering if i run ducting on both sides will it quiet it down, i just want something to bring some fresh air in or should i just open the side vents and let air come in that way and not use the duct fan? Any other tips would be nice. Can i possibly insulate the fan?

I use centrifugal fans for intake and exhaust..fpund that the 'whoosh' of moving air was most of my noise .......My exhaust wasn't duct'd on the down side and was noisy .....during summer had to duct it into a flue....definitely droped some DBs in noise....speedcontrollers also allow you to reduce noise by finding that 'resonance' thats quieter too....Now my small fan in my veg area is louder than my centris....

Get a cardboard box about twice the size of the fan. 2 circles cut out either side. Feed in a short piece of ducting through each hole to be attached to the sides of the fans. Get a can of expanding foam and put a layer down in bottom of box and position fan on top. Attach the ducting then take a marker pen and mark direction of flow on outsides of box for future reference, now make sure your cable is coming out at a decent spot and close the box. Make two 1 inch holes in the top and fill the box with the rest of the expanding foam through one of them allowing excess to come out the other. Once done, seal with tape etc and you should now have a pretty silent fan. Use hard ducting to cut down on noise if ye like, hook up to accoustic ducting and a silencer and yer sorted for fan noise. My internal fans are louder than the extractor when in the box, but out of the box it is like a jet engine.

Im going to give the box idea a try and let u guys know

Ya, I'll tell you. My Blackstar is the noisiest thing in my grow. The thing just seems to humm.... If it were not for my Blackstar, my grow would be totally stealthy.

Hey, as long as it works I'm not complaining though.

use a airking bathroom fan 2.5 sonas (very quiet) and 90 CFMs

+1. I've got two of them and they are basically silent. I've recommended them over and over because I don't think there's a better 4" solution for a small grow. Quiet, made to run 24/7 in humid environments, and only $33 delivered to your door. :head:

yup.... THE BEST option for stealth think... in my closet in the old place you couldnt hear it run unless it was completly silent... completly... and it was a faint hum at best even then

cheers!

:smokebuds:

its also a small enough air flow that it CAN be run continuously without drastically affecting your heaing coolling bill... :)

The speedster fan controller make fans noisier in my opinion. When most fans first turn on they emit a high pitch "hum" untill they reach full speed. Fan speed controllers control speed by rapidly turning your fan on and off, which makes the "humming" noise never end. At first it isnt that bad, but after awhile it drives me crazy.

get the windtunnel 4" inline. thats what i run and its pretty darn quiet.
