Where I am growing now is in a part of my basement that isn't finished. I have. Central A/C and heat in the rest of the basement but not in that room. Well I've noticed the temp drop this past week. I used my laser temp gauge I leave there just to check plant leaf temps at the tops. They are 70°. That is like 6° less than before.
So do you think that is too cool to grow? I know some strains are from cool climates, but most these plants we grow have been bred so much maybe that strength isn't in them anymore? I'm pretty sure the temps will be like 67-70 in there this winter. Is that too cold?

I don't know.

Nice of me to log in to say that though, huh? :haha:

My room is a cooler room in the house so I put a little electric heater in there to bump up the temp a bit. I have not tried to grow without it. I wouldn't mind unplugging it and save the money so I'm interested in replies you may get.

I've been having a similar problem since cooler temps have invaded and my intake comes from outside...and I recently changed to LEDs and cobs which are much cooler than hps they replaced.
Solved the problem by hanging an older, small hps in the tent that gives enough heat and a bit of blooming light.

I just checked temp, I don't grow in a tent, so I'm at the mercy of the room temp. It is a little warmer inside the grow area I have partitioned. It's about 69-70 reg on all the surfaces around the plants at this time.
I don't want to run a small heater, it's not so much the cost as the danger of having one of those running unattended.

One option is to simply move to a tent, and control your exhaust fan with a thermostat switch (keeping more heat in the tent).

If your running LED, your temps are going to make a big difference. Leaf temp target of 78-82.

If your running HPS, leaf temps in the mid 70s is great.

If LED, you might think about hps for the cold months, I know several growers that swap back and forth for that reason.

Or you could add an extraction fan on the intake, and pull air from a warmer source.

It will grow, but a higher temp for autos is much more desirable. If you did get a tent, you could control the heat easier. If you decide to buy a heater, I suggest the radiator type. Ceramic space heaters are pretty dry. My radiator heater sits in a two drawer file cabinet pushed up to one of my low tent screens. The inline fan sucks in the warmth.

i like a test where something is removed, rather than added
im in a cupboard in the box room of an old cold house.insulation helps in both hot n cold situations.from a bit of cardboard right upto a sheet of kingspan 50mm.
can ya have the intake from inside the building in winter months ?
speed controler for extraction...suck less hot air from growspace cheap speed controller.JPG

inkbirds are great for a back up/2nd source of heating/cooling inkbird.JPG gets to hot not good for expensive led's so a fan kicks on to blow the heatsink.to cold 2 foot tube heater.JPG a tube heater, strange as they seem to be a euro thing only  super safe, but not a great source of heat.....but at 60/120w great for a small space.
good luck n keep er lit

:pighug:

The simplest method, you could put a small fan in the top corner blowing the warm air off the lamp down into the tent,
