Hey guys, I´m after a little input if possible. I´m a new member here but been growing autos for a few years now (here is my current grow journal: https://www.autoflower.org/f142/auto-green-poison-some-dinafem-auto-original-amnesia-too-31398.html)

I live in the Med, and I usually throw some photoperiod plants onto my balcony every summer and do very little apart from feed and water them. My balcony gets about 7 hours of direct sunshine and plenty of indirect light. The plants always do ok but nothing spectacular (lack of direct light is responsible for this I assume).

Now to the question - I have grown DP White Widow and Auto Mazar before inside, but wanted to know how you thought a Think Different would perform on the balcony. I have shied away from autos outside apart from throwing a few runts out there to finish off and create space in my tent. Because of the lack of direct sunlight, the photoperiods that I grow tend to take a long time to flower and finish. Is it worth my time to try a Think Different out there or should I just stick to my normal photo´s and keep the Think Different for indoors after the summer heat has calmed down (I have to shut my tent down for July and August because of the extreme temps).

Thanks in advance for any input. I thought I was a half decent grower until I came to this site and realised just how much more I have to learn!!

Do your autos outside get hot sun on some days to the point of the pots being warm to touch. Autos stunt for me outside...inside outside not the issue I think. If the roots gets to warm they stunt the plant....me think.

Yeah they do - I actually bought some white plastic pots for the photoperiod plants I grow to help with this issue. I´ve never done an auto all the way to harvest on the balcony though - been doing them for a few years inside but this would be a new venture!

Auto's evolved primarily (though not exclusively) indoors and.., at least in the modern 'sense' of the word they are optimised to maximise their growth potential under 20 hours of 'midday sun'. So a limit of just 7 hours of direct light will limit the plant below the genetic potential. With only 10-11 weeks of life available to them this has a more severe effect on auto's than it does for photoperiod varieties which have a few months more to add biomass.

Another factor is indeed the temperature of the root ball, those that grow in desert regions often have to root the plants into the earth (rather than use plant pots) since this is the best way to give the roots the optimised cool damp conditions that they are designed for. So anything you can do to keep the plant pots cool is something which the plants will really repay you for. Maybe that could be some way of creating shade so that the plant pots themselves are not receiving direct light and 'baking' the root ball

So auto's will do a job on your balcony, its just that they won't reach their full yield potential. On the other hand you might be able to get 2 or 3 crops a year from auto's whereas a photoperiod crop is restricted to just the one crop.

I would say it has to be worth an experiment to see whether the auto's will yield 1 ounce or 3-4.

A useful tip will be to go for the biggest plant pot containers you can reasonably get

enjoy

more light equals more buds.maybe try bring her on inside til pre flower then stick her out on the balcony.worth a shot with one bean even.

Thanks for the info Tony - I treat my balcony plants as free weed - lower quality than what I produce in my tent and I don´t give them much care and attention. I think I will stick to what I know and keep the autos inside and do my annual photoperiods on the balcony!

To be honest I just won´t move them around - I leave my balcony `plants to get on with it! All things considered I am gonna leave the autos for my tent. Thanks for the input mate!
