The Mephisto Manifesto!
Hey guys, just wanted to fill you in on how we get down here on the farm right now, and wherever we may be in the future this is how we are going about our company.
I've mentioned certain elements before that are dotted about in our other threads, but here it is in one place.
I can't speak about how everyone else does things, but I can clue you in on our own ideology.
We're a team of two (trying to coerce a 3rd friend currently ), I do the following job roles: Forum work, Photos, Design, Selection, Strain Development, Pollinations, Documenting, De-seeding, Sorting. And I'm sure there's more.
Tim does: Building, Prepping, Feeding, Land management, Plant maintenance, Plumbing, Electrical and many extras. Then we both come together to help each other out on a lot of tasks where appropriate.
We don't have a big budget, and we ourselves live pretty much hand to mouth whilst the plants get spoilt
It's a complete monster to micro-manage every last detail of our little company and work practices, but we pride ourselves on being a two man team, and it ensures quality control is always at the up most.
From selecting seeds for the next generation from the very best phenotype, to germinating, growing, selecting only the best, pollinating, harvesting, drying, sorting, packaging, and documenting, our experienced and watchful eye is on the ball every step of the way.
And whilst we find ourselves working past midnight daily, and our Sunday workload being the same as a Wednesday for example, we might collapse into bed, walking dead style, but we sleep well knowing we've done a good days work.
We grow the maximum amount of plants feasible for the available space in order to find those exceptional plants to work with.
Here at Mephisto genetics we produce for quality not quantity every step of the way.
Some of our strains are several years in the making now, and to dedicate that much time, effort, money and love into a project, we want everything to be as good as it could ever be.
Here are some of the methods we employ:
Hand pollinated buds - taking a reversed females male flower directly off her and sprinkling the targeted buds with a light dusting one at a time. Time consuming, but I've tried other ways, and this is my stand-out preference.
We aim to pollinate no more than 50% of the plant at hand, this ensures all the plants energy is put into producing less seeds so the result is a higher quality seed.
Only the very best plants are selected for pollination, this could mean out of a group of 50 female plants, less than 5 are selected to carry on the variety to the next generation. It pays to be choosey.
Plants are pollinated before the optimum time for maximum seeds, with an auto the optimum time for maximum seeds is generally around 40-45 days from sprout, we pollinate a way before this window, which ensures the seeds have all the time they need to develop and mature within a healthy plant.
All seeds are dried within the plants slowly for several weeks, separated, dried and then chilled until the highest germination rates occur with testing.
All the above means we produce less seeds, however the seeds we do produce are of the highest quality. Which is most important to us.
We intend to release packs that will be numbered as part of a limited edition for each strain. We also intend to give the seeds a unique ID number, that can tell us which parent plants specifically created your seeds.
We DO NOT outsource our genetics to be grown and produced by any third parties, it's all done in house and will remain that way as long as we are in operation.
We are always going to be available for help or assistance with any of our products.
We love the community, there's some fantastic people here and in the industry as a whole.
We are all for transparency with our methods, ideas and day to day happenings, everything basically (Baring in mind safety of course)
Hopefully the jist of this comes across well, I guess the main point I want to make is that even though we have up-scaled dramatically, the exact same care and attention goes into the seeds we make today, as the seeds I made many moons ago in my closet.
We changed our lives to do this venture, we go through some turmoil now and then, but needless to say, we are super stoked to be doing what we are doing and only want to leave positive impressions and do positive things with our work. We've come too far to sell ourselves short.
Thanks muchly for reading, Peace and good vibes to everyone, wish you all the best for 2014. Adios!
