I am wondering how these stack up against the LED we are using on the community. Blackstar? Penetrator? They have a large price tag. They also have pretty intense claims and the ability to change lights on the fly..

i am vey curious as well
i see the potential but the cost is still reliant on the long term energy savings not the not for favor to the consumer
if prices would get more reasonable the items will sell faster but if people buy them at the going cost not much reason to compete in the longer run

yes i would have to see major improvements to fork out 3-5x the price of my blackstars

do these blackstars do the job, ive been looking at them on ebay??

I am having descent results using them. I got 2 of the 240. With 1 in my smaller tent I have been getting an oz a plant on 3 plants

ok cool. im really want to get them, this grow i think i will go with a 250 cfl/hps and next grow ill get a blackstar and have the latter as supplemental

IMO the SuperNovas are overpriced compared to some others. I'm using a 240 watt GLH in one area and two 240 watt Blackstars in another 3' x 4' area. I'm finding that the two in that 3 x 4 area aren't quite enough and am planning on adding a third one. Even three of them will be less than one SuperNova. Hydrohut seems to be overpriced on most everything they sell, including those lights.

When comparing LED to HPS, don't forget the cost of replacement HPS bulbs. When you figure in the cost of a 400 watt HPS system, about $60 for a reflector, $200 for a good digital ballast, and $100 for a good bulb with an expanded blue spectrum, like the Hortilux, that's $360. You would need to change the HPS bulbs about 3 times to get the same life expectancy as an LED, so add another $300, bringing it up to $660. Two Blackstar 240 would run about $550. Then add in the savings on electricity and you come out way ahead with the LEDs.

If you do decide to purchase them, go directly to Gotham Hydro to buy. Call them directly, don't order off the web, and they will give you an additional discount.
