Hello all! I recently switched from bottle nutes and ff soils to organic dry amendments and promix coco with michorizae.
My first grow yielded quite a bit but every plant I grew after drying ended up super fluffy and airy.
Any idea why?
With bottles my flowers were coming out nice and dense. Maybe too much N from what I've read? I did use quite a bit of worm castings thru the whole grow but idk of that would be the issue?
Any help or ideas will be greatly appreciated!
Thank you in advance!
Peace

Without any images or history on your plant advice will be fairly limited, I would say you cut it too early, or a lighting issue. We would need more info though.

Heat and real high ppfd can play a big role in airy buds. Also strain choice of course. Some more information would be needed to really figure it out.

Ok here we go....
9x11 room so plenty of space. 6" inline exhaust fan and 4" inline for intake air.
Lights: Agilex 3000 cob led (600 watts) and Mars Hydro ts 2000 (300 watts).
Light cycle: 18/6
Avg temp: 83°F / 55% Hu w/ both lights on
Pot size: 5gal
Nutes: Natures Pride Veg & Bloom, Cafe-Mag Cal-Mag, worm castings.
Strains: 2x Magic Melon from Humboldt Seed Co. , 1x Black Strap by Brother Mindel/Mandalorian , 1x Chunkadelic by Humboldt Seed Co. , 1x Deadhead OG by CaliConnection, 1x Creme de la Cosmos by Night Owl Society.

Deadhead, and both Magic Melons were grown under agilex.
Black Strap, Chunkadelic, Creme de la Cosmos grown under Mars Hydro.

All plants were harvested when just about 10% amber

Both mm's grew completely different. One grew to +7', had to super crop it to keep from hitting light. The other one grew very nicely, stacked up nice and felt pretty dense on plant.
Deadhead ended up the densest out of the entire grow.
Chunkadelic & Black Strap both chonked out on plant with forearm colas but aired out a lot when drying.
Creme didnt air out quite as much.

No pics as I usually dont take them.

I'm growing the cosmos and blackstrap right now but unfortunately only about 30 days in. So I can't comment on strain choice but was that temp and humidity constant at that level through flowering? That sets you towards the higher end of vpd ranges around 1.5ish. That said you would've noticed airy buds while growing which doesn't seem to be the case? What was the drying temp and humidity?

Drying temp was around 72°-75° and 55-60% Hu. Couldn't get the temp any lower. And dont have portable ac for room yet. The Hu dropped to about 52% at end of dry (about 9 or 10 days)

I would try banana ffj that should increase your yield by adding liquid potassium.

Yeah everything seems to be on point. I dry in very similar environment in the summer. I do notice they shrink but the structure seems to stay intact. I know some of my issues were late flower deficiency or overall unhealthy plants. Maybe someone with some more experience can chime in. Maybe get some bud shots of the finished product?

I average about 4-5 oz dry flower off each plant. Theres been a few that started flower really quick and got about 1.5-2 oz dry flower.
