Towards lights out in the grow tent all my girls have down turned leaves and look miserable, but the next day they are revived and vibrant light seeking beauties. What is it (respiration?). I've never observed plants so closely it doesn't seem to bother them, it's not inhibiting growth (is it?)

I think it's normal. I've had it as well. I think they just get ready for sleep.

Check the RH and temperature when they droop. If they are out of range high or low the stomata on the plant begin to close trapping the water the plant has brought nutrients in with during the day making the leaves heavy.

Will do. I use passive temp control - when the lights on it's warm. I went mental and have 5 plants in a .8*.8*1.6m grow tent and use a side vent to get more air in to deal with higher humidity levels. I got my tent and started doing autos in summer, so the ambient temps have dropped since then. I may run 24hrs instead of 20 just to keep the temps and rh stable ish. But I'll be checking the numbers - I never would have thought to look - I feel a bit daft now.

It used to drive me crazy when my plants got droopy and I did not know why. I just shrugged it off because the plants continued to ripen. I was taking one of Harley Smith's classes and just in a passing comment he says what I just told you. If the stomata start to close - especially on a rapidly growing plant - the leave will droop from the weight of the water that stopped respiring. It was like:
 Oh it is that simple.

You can also have droopy leaves if the plant is not getting enough nutrients. The plant pulls in more water in an attempt to get more nutrients. This rarely happens with a cannabis grower we all overfeed.

By the way I still get droopy plants sometime I just cannot control the environment but now I know what is causing it.

It was food! Plant started yellowing at the growing tips - 1 good feed later and she's a happy girl!
