it is a lowes soil it has mg in it.notice all the wood in it.i went today and bought a small bag of mg seed starter will start another batch of seed tomorrow to test with.will try the tea.sounds like what ive seen ,stems dry up slowly even with wet soil just overall not growing--the water is tap but i sit it out for 2 days and put a air bubbler in jugs for 12 to 15 hours.have never tested the water.i have added nothing to water or soil

Lots of wood chips and not much perlite, soil looks bad to me.

littleT, one thing you'll get here is plenty of support when you need it. It would be nice if we could just go to one of the box stores (HD, Lowe's, etc.), get a bag of mix, throw a seed in it, and be home free. I've actually seen that happen before but you have to be really, really lucky.

You can continue to do things the way you have been doing it: start a grow, burn up your plants, then ask for help... or, you could invest a little time studying some of the grows (particularly in the new grower forum) and taking advantage of the other resources available on the site.

We have new growers here, who invested a little time educating themselves, that had outstanding results right from the beginning. The people who don't do that, end up waiting a lot longer to enjoy their first harvest. We have moderators who are designated to watch out for, and assist new growers, patiently. As you have probably already experienced, the members here share a common purpose, which is to assist and encourage others.

So, I want you to know, I'm not trying to give you a hard time... but, there is a shorter path to your growing goals. :peace:

i hear you BUT i have read hundreds of posts here and other sites and watched tons of video hours and hours.the problem i believe from reading is the soil more than anything.and my problem is inside--i grow outside with no problems other than critters.if i read to use a cfl or 2 to start plants after coming up -=--tried that----have converted a small cabinet with a fan --and 10 100 watt<24 watt> bulbs in a 30x36x20 inches.have tried under a fishtank light---was told to try chamomile tea---ive tried for 10 days differant things--so i am reading alot.---if i start seed outside fora week it will then be ok to move under lightso its just the germinating and starting inside.seems soil is not the best to start with.went today and bought some seedling soil--i will figure it out with help or no!soil is mg potting soil--i did buy some mg seedling soil today to try just to say im 60 and been growing outside since i returned from viet nam in 1971 just always liked the outside.new to inside-----and i may burn up as you say a few bagseed but better to learn on cheap seed before sticking my good stuff in the ground.i hate to say it but i have just thrown seed in the dirt and there they go!

i had poor results from MG potting soil
untill i added 1 tablespoon of dolomite
lime to each gallon of soil.
this was added to the soil ..after the soil
was rinsed with distilled water at a rate of
2 gallons water slowly poured thru each 1 gallon of soil.
after the slow release ferts are rinsed away..the dolomite
lime stabilizes the low ph swings caused by the decomposing
peat in the soil
but still of 12 seed sprouted 10 were male.
and the 2 surviving females were badly stunted

You are so right JD. That is exactly what i did and thanks to the people on this forum, i learned allot and had a successful grow.

Did you pull the seed shell off? It looks like one of the cotyledons is ripped in that picture. Doing that to a seedling will stunt it back at least a solid week if not two. As well, just wanna point out that soil looks more like mulch than soil, haha.

Honestly a CFL and minimal water is enough to get you through your first two weeks of growth. Sometimes we do too much to plants without realizing it.
