I am wanting to grow strains high in β–Caryophyllene and would appreciate any suggestions or pointers to specific seeds. Or even suggestions on how I can better search, filter and identify seeds by terpene profile. Currently, I read online descriptions and note when a stain is identified as 'spicy' in hopes that this is roughly correlated with elevated levels of β–Caryophyllene. But this rather vague at best, and I am hoping to improve my strategy.

Thanks!

An update: I have continued my search and spent a fair amount of time on the Dutch Passion site, since they post terpene profiles for most of their strains. Eventually, the searching on their site started to feel a bit too much like work, especially since I am trying to identify a strain with notable levels of both β–Caryophyllene and Ocimene, so I emailed their customer service. Here is their reply:

...
That would be our Auto Mimosa Punch , Auto Cinderella Jack, Auto Blackberry Kush, Auto Trichome & Cream or Auto Kerosene Krash for Beta-Caryophyllene
...
Ocimene is mainly found in lower doses in some varieties like for example our Auto Blackberry Kush, Auto Mimosa Punch and Auto Kerosene Krash
...

+1 for Dutch Passion customer service!

I have also contacted a few other breeders, but I have not received a reply. If I do, I will update this thread.

I think you'd really dig the classic "Trainwreck", homie. Was a popular banger in the earlier 2000s and making somewhat of a resurgence in the post-candy world.

Tastes great, nice buzz, energetic without the panic attack, huge yielder. It's "spicy" not too "hazey" if that makes sense. I've never grown it, but Mendo2020 makes a big deal of it being a part of their long term norcal heritage and have a few spins on it.

Pretty widely available on the medical, rec, and traditional markets tho - so maybe grab a bag before committing to a whole grow.

Hey, thanks for the suggestion! I will work on getting some seeds of this strain.

Unfortunately, around my parts, I can't very easily pick up a bag to sample, but I have fun sprouting new seeds to sample :smoking:

that's the terp i look for too. i read up on all the genetics i loved and that terp was usually #1 or #2 on the list. unfortunately, i can't find much info on autos. i mostly bought from mephisto and nightowl but i got yelled at by fanboys for asking what terps were in their genetics.

nice.

If you are ingesting (vs. smoking/vaping) and want more beta-caryophyllene, much like those who may add it back to purified extracts you can simply add it. Caryophyllene is relatively cheap, for ex. see the oxide version and other plant-purified terpenes at https://extractconsultants.com/collections/isolated-terpenes; or select a pre-made mix with high content such as at https://extractconsultants.com/collections/solvent-free-terpene-blends.

This possibility did not even occur to me, thanks! Indeed, I have an interest in creating edibles. Further, I have been wondering about how well various terpenes hold up during my normal decarb/infuse process. β–Caryophyllene appears to have a low boiling point compared to other terpenes. Adding terpenes after creating the infusion would allow me to avoid terpene degradation due to excessive heat.

While I would prefer to consume only what I grow, I am not averse to getting some help from science!

Thankfully no one has (yet) yelled at me for asking! Although a few breeders have ghosted me on a response.

I also find the terp to be present in the weed tastes I like best. In addition to the taste, my research suggests that the terp is beneficial for gastric health and so I am attempting to include more of it not only in my weed, but also in the foods I eat.
