Hello, I have an interest in crossing one of my favorite photos and try to make an auto version of this.. I know it takes time and several generations.. Im wondering what auto strain is best to breed the auto characteristic? I notice a lot of seed breeders are using LR#2 crossed with whatever, but is that the best strain to use? Some breeders only list ruderalis, are they using the Russian ruderalis and breeding their own line of auto?

Lowryder 2 would work or you could find an auto that already has similar traits to the photo you like or even traits that would compliment the photos but aren't necessarily the same.

The plant I have in mind is a short - medium plant, perfect sea of green, and can be grown into larger bushier plants if you give them time. There are a lot of similarities only the photo strain turns lavender red colors during flowering. Maybe this would make it easy to see the characteristics Im looking for in the offspring since I would be searching for the auto flowering plant that looks like the photo strain. Other than the colors and bud density LR#2 sounds like a good match. As far as I can tell nobody has made this cross yet, I can't even find talk about crossing it on the web so i feel this could be a unique variety..

You might not find red bud plants in F1 seeds from your auto x photo cross. If not simply pick the plants with the other traits you're looking for and cross them. F2s may give you some red colored buds.
If not you will have to pick 2 new F1s to cross or you can breed 2 F2s that show the auto trait and use the F3 (autos) and backcross to the original red bud photo and try to breed in the red from there.
The second option is probably the best way to get exactly what you want because the auto used for the bx will be more similar to the photo.
