Local dealer stopped carrying my Canna coco.Tried a brand call Cyco, bad water retention.Stopped by another place and the guy recommanded the House and Gardens brand.
Dawn thing is full of ,what i now know as ,Springtails. The few post i found were not very informative on how to get rid of those,if even possible.
Anyone can help ? Thanks!

I would assume diatomaceous earth would help with that. Unless im mistaken it should help resolve almost all forms of bugs in mediums? Dont quote me but I use it every time I have pests. But I also dont run coco sooooo yeah. Ive never heard you cant use it in coco tho

BTI will work on them. It's the same stuff as mosquito dunks. If you get a powdered version you can mix it into your water. It kills most larvae.

I personally use the Gnatrol WDG brand. Works great. I had had to reapply it a couple times but definitely sorts them out quick. Have to break the life cycle and make sure the larvae die before they can lay more eggs.

Their site is a bit wonky but I've received quality product both times. We have a lot of patio plants that bring in some outdoor nasties when it gets cold. Fungus gnats die quick too.

They are but, you may not want them as I think conditions for springtails are similar to other pests. Also it can be difficult to determine if they are springtails and only those and not other nasty beasties.

Nice article here explaining that they are beneficial:

EDIT: I currently have springtails in one of my coco pots but none of the others. They get washed out in the runoff. One dose of gnatrol and they were basically gone.

Let your coco dry out and apply diatomaceous earth. It’s not effective when the medium is wet. Apply quite a thick layer to the top of your coco and dust some onto your leaves. Keep repeating until you don’t see anymore. I cannot garaunttee you that it will completely kill them off because insects have life cycles and you need to attack them based on those cycles. But if your coco gets dry and you have a thick layer of that, I’m assuming it will cut them up. You can also add quite a thick layer of sand and they shouldn’t get out, then run some insecticide through your coco from time to time. I had fungus gnats which stemmed from a overly wet seedling im certain. Applied DE each time I let the coco dry out and they’ve never been baxk
