Strain: Sour Bubbly

Did it autoflower?: This odd example did not indicate with any pistils until one tiny wire-like thread appeared on day 35. I moved the plant outdoors and it eventually flowered, going from zero to hero very quickly. I can't say for sure whether it autoflowered or not.

Soil/hydro: Light soilless mix in a 3 gallon fabric pot

Nutes: Seagrow all purpose 16-16-16 and Bloom 4-26-26, some Hula Bloom 0-50-30, silicates, Sugaree, some Hygrozyme, Great White mycos, Botanicare CalMag

Light (kind and schedule): 24/0 LEDs, then put outdoors at day 37.

From seed to harvest date: I think she came down at around day 85-ish. I wanted to take her longer as the side buds were not fully mature but it was mid-October at this point with very cool and humid weather, also caterpillars were beginning to wreak havoc.

Dry Yield: I did not weigh it. It looked to be about 3 1/2 ounces, more than half of which I ended up discarding due to caterpillar damage and the mold they encourage.

High/Effect Duration: 1-2 hrs, nice hybrid style with strong relaxing indica effect and an energizing/awake stone from the sativa.

This was really an unusual plant. It stayed super low, was still 12.5 to 13 inches tall at 37 days when it went outside. It had a RIOT of branches going on though. It went outside late in the season and I figured I'd lose her to mold anyway and had thoughts of culling her, but I wanted to see what it would do.

When it did finally start flowering, it really went for it quickly and produced some hard, heavy, sticky buds. I even trimmed 8 branches off her as flowering started because there was no air circulation or light penetration, and she still finished out well in the cool weather she had.

She was far and away the most resinous girl of the garden, and the dried buds clank in the shaken jar like stones that might break the glass. The fresh buds had a nice sweet and floral smell that was very pleasant with resin everywhere such that there was little reason to trim the finished buds much. A resin monster for sure.

Mephisto was as surprised as I was that the flowering started so late on her, and sent me some replacement seeds (big as boulders, too). I had not acquired this seed directly from them, but Mephisto was very cool about it and I ended up really impressed with the quality on her anyways.

BAG APPEAL:***** 5 Stars, for sure. Super frosty buds

THE GROWTH:***** Hard to rate as this plant was so unusual with its late flowering. I'd like to rate it at 5 stars anyway because the plant was always healthy looking and performed well in spite of the autumn weather and of having been trimmed hard early in flowering.

I want to say that if I had had the luxury of starting the seed earlier in the year, and putting her outside in good weather, burying her into a larger pot...I think the yield would have been easily 6 ounces or more. This is a hardy, strong growing plant.

THE SMELL:***** 4 Stars. Hard to describe. Sweet smell and floral/perfume. The perfumed aspect of the floral was very strong. After almost 6 months of cure it has mellowed to hashy and floral smell, identical to the taste when burned.

THE SMOKE:***** 4.5 Stars. Good, thick smoke, not harsh, good hashy taste combined with the floral-perfume.

THE HIGH:***** 4 Stars. Good body high is relaxing and fairly strong, average duration for me. The sativa aspect keeps you alert and energized so you won't get stuck on the couch. Based on my experience, I'd like to try the 24 carat pure or some more of the other 24c crosses as the hashy element is very nice.

I'll put some pics of the grow here so you can check her out. This is definitely a high quality plant and I'm stoked to try more offerings from Mephisto in the garden this year. I'm very impressed with the quality.

I gave a bean of Sour Bubbly to another medical grower here this winter. He came back to me the other day with a nice, organically grown spear.

His example auto'd perfectly and he got a very nice bubblegum aroma and flavor from her, and he could correctly guess the gum was in the cross. The flavor of the joint got better and better as it smoked, and was impressive to everyone who tried it. Good stuff!

Great job MediScrogs! Sorry for the delay, but I just stumbled across your thread! Any recommendations from Mephistos line up?

Hey bud, there's so much to choose from there at Mephisto, it would be hard for me to single any out. I've only done Sour Bubbly so far, and I have a Ripley's OG at 61 days today in A Garden of Goodies, the thread in my sig below.

I've enjoyed Sour Bub more as she's aged. The effect was slightly sativa dom to begin--over time it's more balanced and the potency is good. I can tell you that Ripley's OG smells great, a rotting fruit smell that is getting sweet as she enters the home stretch. Sweet and rotting tropical fruit, more like papaya than mango I guess. It's hard to describe!

Certainly, the new artisanal strains look great, and I've seen peeps here with some very frosty Heisenburg Specials lately. Alien vs. Triangle was in several BOM comps as well last fall if I remember correct, I think she won at least once. Also, for some strong meds, Deep Blue C sure sounds good, or anything with their Chemdog in it for that matter. I'm sprouting an SODK at the moment, she's a balanced toke and a nice large plant. Any SODK crosses would probably be fire.

Read through the strain descriptions on Mephistos site, and here in their subforum. Also, pore over the smoke reports--I'm sure you'll find something you'd like. I think Mephisto is planning another drop of Illuminautos sometime here soon, that provides a good occasion to grab some special, limited crosses as well. Hard to go wrong with any of their gear bro, expect high quality whichever strains you choose....

Thanks kinds sir! I guess my main problem is deciding lol. I've been reading through the smoke reports and man, it all sounds great! I've been on their website quite a bit but again, everything looks fantastic. 3 Bears sounded pretty good and there were several others that caught my eye. Oh the grape crinkle too! I'll be sure to check out your grow! How do you check the link in the signature? Still trying to figure this new fangled technology out lol.

Cool man. Trying to pick strains is a deeply personal choice and tend to affect people differently. Trying as many varieties as possible seems the only way to really know what works best for you. How mature the plant was at harvest, and also curing, has a great influence on the effects as well.

Grow as many strains as you can, bro!
