I've been playing Skyrim for a while, I'm on my 5th or 6th character,
and the game continues to surprise me. I learned 4 new things yesterday,
which is surprising considering that I've played this a lot already.
I also think there may be a subplot, which would be a 5th thing, but I am not
sure how to find it. The Thalmor may be fighting vampires, but I think I will
wind up googling the answer.
Anyway, the graphics are nice, if you have strong computer, the gameplay is more
varied than any game I've seen before. I haven't yet tried playing as a thief, assassin,
vampire, and 3 or 4 of the races that inhabit the planet. Playing as on orc was fun.
Not big on subtlety...
The one bad thing is that the game burns time like crazy. Each skill has 100 levels,
and when you get it to 100, you can reset it by giving it Legendary status, and just
keep getting stronger. I haven't done that, either. Actually, I did do it once, and found
out that there is a catch. You need to be ready for that, or else.
Steam occasionally has it or the add on missions on sale, but the 'Legendary Edition'
has it all for 40 bucks. If you buy it a piece at a time, it's 65. There is a new add on coming,
and they will likely put Skyrim on sale when it comes out.
If you do, start with a guy that is naturally good at magic, put him in heavy armor as soon as
you can. Unless you play a lot of hack and slash games and can dance, get the biggest nastiest
axe you can find. You start with weapons that do 5 to 15 points of damage. I have a twice enchanted great sword that does over 150 points of damage, steals over 90 points of health
and from the foe every time I hit him (and gives it to me) and has a 50-50 chance of doing
another 100 points of magic damage. Guys that used to kill me routinely go down with a swing or two. I saved the climactic battle of the game until I got it and the 4 guys with me never
had the chance to get fully into the fight. The game does make a lot of the characters tougher,
and you can set the difficulty rating higher, as you get stronger.
But...this thing will eat time worse than any other game I've ever seen. Glad I didn't find it
before I retired...
