Size isn't everything.... maybe

Hello,

So, I've got quite a small setup, I was wondering if you have as well and if you have is there anything you've found that helps get the most out of your environment?

My stuff is:
40 cm x 40 cm tent
Koscheal 1200W LED Full Spectrum UV And IR light
18 / 6 light cycle

I'm new to all this as well. Lovely.

I started off with 2 critical autos that came in some sketchy packaging as a "product of equivalent value" as the supplier didn't have what I ordered, and started off with things that we had lying around:
1 liter pots
John innes number 2 compost
Tomorite plant food

Out of these 2 plants, in 13 1/2 weeks, I got:
49G's of dry smokeable buds
7.5G's of low quality press hash (felt bad binning my trim!)

I thought it was better to take an approach where I started off basic and changed factors bit by bit to see what makes a difference.

I was wondering if anyone thought whether this is good or bad as far as the amounts of produce go, or kind of what you'd expect. If there was one or two things that you'd suggest changing to get more amounts. Or maybe a load of stuff!?

Also, while I was quite happy with the above as a first go, it wasn't quite as brain tingling as what I'd been used to smoking so was wondering if you had an pointers on what ends up with more bounce to the ounce.

I've got an Automassassin (critical mass collective) on the go at the moment, with pretty much the same as the above (I did sprinkle half a crushed up biotab 12-8-8 over the soil and stopper the Tomorite at week 10). This one grew a lot higher with a lot more colas which I suspect is to do with the strain. I'm also trying in incremental harvest (I chopped the mail cola at the end of week 10, which gave about 12G's dry) with this one, as a bit of an experiment with breaking the apical dominance. I also added a fan about 4 days ago (start of week 12), as it's been stupid hot here recently. The remaining colas have put on weight nicely, but I'm not sure if this would have happened if I'd just left it or not.

I'm going to keep adding to this, as spreading the love is what it's all about, so please feel free to add to this if you're feeling lovely too.

that's a nice little result for your 1st go but if you want gun powder type strains maybe go with fastbuds seeds or a dinafem cookie strain will be great in small spaces i run solo cups with that strain and I've got 43 grams dry off just one and its a good strong smoke also Mephisto do some superb strains

I went and looked at the light, for what you have, I think you did pretty well, especially given the area you have to grow! Indoor, the light is the heart of your grow, get the best you can, you could upgrade to a small quantum board and boost your numbers some...
Other than that, genetics are the #1 item controlling weather your smoke is good. Some good breeders out there in auto-land, and many not so good... until you get a feel for who's who stick with the big names you see on the forum... Mephisto, Dinafem, fastbuds... many others too...

Roughly 50 grams in a little over a square foot isn't terrible, and you can up that for sure.

Thanks guys, that's good to hear that it's not too bad and that there's also room for improvement.

I've got a Gelato Auto on the go as well (sweet seeds) as their average harvest on GD looked high, the THC content is high as well, and sweet seeds seemed quite established. I've also started bigger pots (4L fabric), and plant magic soil on this grow as well, to see what happens.

The automassassin was hyped on a supplier's site, which suckered me, but after a bit of research they seemed pretty sound doing things like giving a bunch of new strain seeds to forums to do what they will with, which I kinda liked. The plant itself has definitely been an improvement on the first two, so far in height, number of colas and size of colas, so it will be interesting to see what the total harvest is.

One that I've thought might be good to try in the future is fastbuds blackberry auto... I guess I'm tempted by the big purple colas

And I'm going to get saving for a new light (the one I've got was a convenience/best of what's instantly available grab), but the gelato started OK under it, which it was put under just after sprouting and still with it's seed casing on the dicotyledons, so I don't think I can really complain. A better light is on the list for sure, though.

Wow! 43 dry off one is nearly TWICE what I managed, well done!

When you say solo cups, it that like SOG? Like lots of plants each in small pots? If it is, do these plants grow wide at the bottom or do you tend to get a big single cola on each plant? I'd be intrigued to know.
