Other lesser used terms for chert (most of them archaic) include firestone, silex, silica stone, chat, and flintstone

I may look like an idiot. But where could I get this in bulk for an aquaponic set-up. Lowes? Home Depot? Or what should I look for specifically at a garden shop. No hydro grow stores where I live.

Thanks

garden shops or lumber stores that sell landscaping stuff would be a good place to start.

NM- supposedly that's what most gravel pits in my area dig up. Hmmm.

I was wanting to use it as a grow media with some lava rock. supposedly chert makes good media because it is porous and release some silica overtime that the plants use. The lava rock is just to lighten it up and create some space.

I got a bag of hydrolite by botanicare it seems like it is some kind of silica based lava rock. I really don't have any use for it so if you guys have an idea on how to use it let me know i was thinking of putting it in my drip system with hydroton and coir
