This is my second grow, but my first AFN grow journal! I was lurking here for a while, so I decided to make an account near the end of my first grow, and here we are. So come and hang out with me on this grow. :smoking:

Setup
Here's my setup this time:

Strains
I was actually planning to grow Alien Moonrocks for my first grow, but the shipment got very delayed due to USPS, so I ended up picking some Mosca Pina Colada seeds locally and grew those instead. I eventually got the AMR seeds about a week after the Pina Coladas had popped up from the ground.

This time, I decided to pick up a pack of Twisted Menagerie (from https://greengrassseeds.com/) to go along with the AMR because they both have Alien OG as a parent, so I am hoping they will react to nutrients relatively the same.

They will be in 2x 3 gallon pots, hopefully I don't run out of room!

Soil
I am re-using approx 5 gallons worth of NFTG #4 soil from my last grow. It was placed in a tote, amended with One Shot, EWC, compost, and biochar in the amounts listed above, and sat for a month. I watered it about 2 or 3 times with SLF100. The pH after a month was sitting around 5.8-5.9, so I added some Garden Lime to raise it up a little bit before putting it in the new pots. I also added a mixture of pumice and lava rocks for extra aeration.

I then put that soil into the 3 gallon pots, topped it off with fresh #4 soil, and did a pre-planting flush with Herculean Harvest (bonemeal), Hygeia Hydration (yucca), and Olympus Up (limestone), and let it sit in the tent with the lights on to dry it out and warm it up a little bit for a couple days before putting the seeds in.

I am not 100% sure what my final slurry test numbers are, because my PPM meter died right as I was taking the final slurry test! It was around 900-1000ppm before I put it in the pots, added fresh soil, and did the flush. The final pH is 6.6 though, so that is right in the sweet spot.

Feeding
I got sample packs of Nectar for the Gods and Cultured Biologix products for my first run, I liked the results of my first grow and I still have a bit left of both, so I will continue using them. I also bought Big Foot Granular Mycos, and got a sample of Fish Sh!t, so I will start using those as well. I am using something between the Spartan and Greek Regimens (https://www.oregonsonly.com/howto/) with a Feed - Feed - Tea - Feed - Feed - Flush/Tea schedule (flush or tea depending on slurry test and/or how things look).

I also plan to foliar feed more consistently this time, and add kelp to my recipe, which will now be: Dr. Growth, Ful-Power (fulvic acid), Posiedonzime (kelp), and Photo+,

The biggest difference (and potential issue) this grow, is that I am going to be away for at least one or two long weekends during it, so I got a Blumat system to water while I'm out of town. Hopefully that along with some extra One Shot will keep things happy.

Lighting
I bought the BudgetLED near the end of my first run, so this will be the first time using it for the entire grow. Last time, I used a Mars Hydro TS1000. I will also try out a 20/4 light cycle this time, used 18/6 last time.

The highest I can get the light is 29-30" from the top of the soil. It will most likely stay there for the whole grow.

Log
Day 0: Germination
Placed seeds in shot glasses filled with distilled water and a splash of Zeus Juice and SLF100. Both the kelp and fulvic/humic acids in Zeus Juice, and the enzymes in SLF100, are supposed to help germination.

Put glasses under a bowl inside the tent with the lights on. Temp under the bowl is 78-79F.

After 30 hours, amend 1 tsp of Big Foot around planting area, and put seeds in the soil. AMR had a tiny little crack, TM had the root just coming out.

Carefully place in the soil and spray pH 6.5ish water on it. Place clear plastic cups sprayed with water over planting sites. I also placed a piece of paper over the cup to diffuse some of the light, as I have my light going at full blast to raise the temps. Once they sprout I will dim it to around 50%.

We have life!

TM showed approximately 65 hours after being placed in the soil, AMR showed up a few hours later!

Dimmed lights to approx. 14800lux with 22.88 DLI (calculated with the Tent Buddy app). This is probably not very accurate but I imagine its close enough for my needs. Depending on how things look over the next few days, I may increase the intensity a little as the TM is stretching a bit.

Will start running 20/4 light cycle shortly. There will also be a scheduled power outage here for 6 hours on Day 5, so that will affect the environment slightly.

This light is a lot cooler than the Mars! Temps are at least 5 degrees lower than my previous run, though I may not have dimmed it as much, it was hard to tell where it was at because it was the model before they added the knob.

I am trying out what I call a "seedling tea" this time. It is a combination of Cultured Biologix Dr. Root and SLF100, it should be gentle enough to feed seedlings and promote root growth.

Per cup of water:

Things are going well so far, TM is praying to the light a lot, but AMR seems to be growing slightly quicker.

Busy week for me and the plants.

Some notable things this week:
- Full week of 20/4 light cycle. They are now sleeping at night and praying an hour or so after the lights come back on.
- Started foliar feeding with Photosynthesis+.
- Got the AC Infinity Controller 67.
- First slurry test.
- First feeding of "Autofuel."
- Out of seedling and into veg!

The new AC Infinity controller is a nice upgrade (I bought the the model with only the speed control). The probe seems to match the other hygrometers I have in the tent, and the phone app is surprisingly decent and easy to use. Should be handy in the later parts of the grow to help deal with heat and humidity.

Autofuel! So, this is a NFTG "recipe" that I got from the person who sold me the Mosca seeds. It is supposed to help promote growth early on in the plants life. This post here explains it better than I ever could:


I am also planning to use a slightly modified version of his foliar spray for this grow as well (I'll write more about that next post when I actually use it).

I also took a slurry test, and the numbers look to be right where they should be:

Another busy week for myself and the plants...

Some notable things this week:
- Power outage for 8 hours on day 19
- Out of town from days 20-24, set up blumats (they are awesome!)
- Using modified "Autofuel" foliar spray
- First LST
- Increasing light intensity every day, now to approx 60-70%

Despite the power going out and being out of town, the plants seem to be doing great. Maybe they are trying to tell me that they do better when I leave them the fuck alone...

I think the reason they did so well while I was out of town was the Blumats, I am definitely going to consider using them more in future grows...but I think for this time I am going to stick to my original plan and only use them while I'm away.

I am also using another "Autofuel" recipe for my foliar feed:


The only change I'm making is that I am adding kelp to it. Kelp is supposed to contain micronutrients and promote branching and flowering sites. Kelp and fulvic/humic complement eachother when used in a 5:2 ratio (or in my case, 2:1).

These are the bottles that come with the sample pack along with Hygeia (Nectar's yucca extract) and SLF100. This is what I would consider my "base" feed. I will use the same bottles throughout the grow, but in varying amounts.

I will increase Medusas and Gaia until I get to 2tsp max, the One Shot I am using is basically the dry amendment version of those two, so I shouldn't need to push too hard on them.

Starting to add Demeters here as I think there is a mag deficiency on both plants (as per advice here, thanks!)

We are officially in bloom! Plants are loving life so far, the AMR is a bit bigger (and more vigorous) than the TM, but both are doing waaay better than my last grow at this stage.

Some notable things this week:
- Starting flower stretch
- First IPM spray (using Cultured Biologix Mercenary)
- First Bloom Khaos foliar feed!
- First (and only) veg tea
- First (of many) bloom teas
- Switched to bloom lights on my BudgetLED

One of the biggest things I've changed this grow is how I am watering. I am only feeding each plant about 2-3 cups of water this time, and trying to feed every day or two. Last time I was giving them 4-5 cups each watering and waiting about 3 days before watering again. The plants really seem to be responding being more consistently moist and being fed more often, but less. I may start going away from strict feed-feed-tea/flush and start feeding a bit more if I am able to keep up with watering everyday. I am also trying to water as SLOWLY as possible, and watering from the edges in. This is keeping the top layer less compact so the water isn't pooling at the top much (which happened last time).

This is also the very first time I am using Bloom Khaos as a foliar. I used it as a soil drench last grow and it yellowed stuff real quick, so I am going super easy with it this time. Khaos needs about a 5:1 ratio with Herc, so 5tsp/gal Herc to 1tsp/qt of Khaos. I am also trying to foliar feed as much as I can here before I fully go into flower, and if possible, follow a "Autofuel - Khaos - IPM" spray schedule. The Dr. Growth in the "Autofuel" foliar contains chelated calcium, which is what Khaos needs, so doing it the day before should help.

I also took another slurry test this week, this time using distilled water. I used pH water last time (as my tap water has a fairly high pH), which apparently is not great, so this time (and going forward) I will be using distilled water.

Been busy with things so its been a while since my last update. I'll keep this will be short and sweet.

Flower stretch has started (and hopefully stopped!). Things BLEW UP since my last update! I am feeding them fairly heavily, and they seem to be loving it. The TM has caught up to AMR and now has the bigger main cola, but AMR has more even colas. TM continues to pray heavily, it also has thinner leaves than the AMR.

Some noteable things this week:
- Probably last week of foliars
- Broke and fixed a top during LST
- Amended soil with One Shot and EWC

Broke a stem on AMR! Taped it back up, but I'm not too worried if it survives or not.

First major top dress to get me through flowering. I am going away for a day in about 3 weeks and I am thinking about setting up the Blumat for that weekend again. If I do, this should be more than enough to feed it for a few days.

We got trichromes and the buds are starting to fatten up! We've also got some nutrient deficiencies (I think?). AMR seems to have an Mg def while TM looks like it has a P def. I have been feeding a little above the recommended rates, not sure whats happening, but hopefully they can make it till the end! Surprisingly not really any smells yet, hopefully they will come soon.

Things are really starting to fatten up and smell good now! Things are fading a bit faster than I had expected, but despite the crappy slurry numbers, the buds just keep getting bigger and frostier.

Some notable things this time:
- Went away for the weekend (Hoxyville music fest!), used blumats, and when I came back plants were happy.
- Amended soil with some more One Shot.
- Starting to use Tritons Trawl. This is fish bonemeal that is supposed to help promote more terpenes.
- High slurry numbers

I have apparently been overfeeding a lot, because my ppm's almost doubled since last slurry! Note that I am using E.C. x 500 here. Apparently all the NFTG documentation is E.C. x 700. This is probably partly due to the One Shot, but I dont think they should be this high. After this I will do at least another few days of flushes/teas.

First time using Tritons Trawl. Along with calcium, it also provides an additional source of amino acids. Its even supposed to help terpene development, I plan on using it the last few weeks of the grow.

I just re-read in the NFTG Bible that they recommend doing a ration of 2:1 Herc to Tritons, so I will start doing it at that ratio from now on.

They both really started fading here, TM especially. It was pretty finicky looking the whole grow, but the flowers still look nice and frosty!
