Hi everyone! In the next few weeks im going to be gathering all the bits and bobs I need to get my first grow on the road, the only problem being ive never grown before.. I would love to get some advise from some of you more experienced growers!

Ive been looking around and decided to buy a grow tent to keep everything tidy. Im very limited for space at the moment, especially regarding height. Ive taken a liking to the Secret Jadin Dark Room Propagator like the one below.

Would it be possible and there be enough room to use this tent to grow some dwarf strains like;

  • AutoAK

  • OYNX

  • Russian Rocket Fuel
Or any of the other auto strains by the breeder STITCH?

I could always put the tent on its side if possible as it is only 90 x 60 x 60cm. I also want smell it be as minimal as possible so im going to use a carbon filter, anyone have any ideas on what size I should be looking at with a tent this size?

Also im thinking of using CLFs due to head room and burning the top of the plans, ive been told my a few friends to stay clear of them but ive also seen some great grows on YouTube etc using them.

Can any of you guys help me out? I wanna get my first grow on the go! :toke: Cheers in advance! :D

Dude i got 2 RRF going at 6 weeks and they at 27 and 29" tall! :smoke:

Only stitch strains?
dont grow tall plants with light with crap penertration

you want t5's or leds in there and short plants under 2ft
as you will need light/pot space

Cheers for the speedy replies guys! Sorry I was looking at the average grow size on some of the seed sellers sites, can you recommend any specific strains that would be suitable for a new grower like me with this set up?

If memory serves me right are LEDs pretty pricey? I haven't really looked at t5s either so ill have a gander, cheers again! :D

Smaller pots tend to give smaller plants. That could help you if you only have 60cm total height. I find smaller pots more tricky to look after as they dry out pretty quick.

I'd agree with Agito there... t5 or led. If you are trying to be stealth, t5's would be good as they are silent. LEDs have a internal fans that can get a little noisy. Good results can be achieved with cfl though. Check out Noods grow https://www.autoflower.org/f5/stone-dragons-cream-caramel-lowryder-8763.html

A 100mm carbon filter and fan would probably be the smallest you will find. Then if you wish to keep it quiet I'd suggest a variac fan controller. It will allow you to run the fan at low speed and keep the noise down. Variac controllers eliminate fan hum at low speeds.

Also, just as a thought.... How about turning that tent on its end to give 60x60 floor space and 90 cm height?

Cheers for the reply snooch. Just took a look at Noods thread and it looks great, I take it his results are far better than your average CLF grow though? Is there any particular advantages LED or t5 have over CLF as I am really attracted to CLFs due to the price haha.

Just had a glance over the filters on offer and the price range seems to differ allot, is it worth going for the brands or isnt there much in performance? Cheers for the advice bout the variac controller ill take a look. Also you must have missed it in my OP but im happy to the tent on its side :p

Any tough strains you would recommend for a noob like me? Thanks :D

Totally understandable i know its quite hard to get everything together at first.

To be brief, The LEDs emit more useable light per watt and the t5's are slimline so they don't take up much space. Both are low heat and both come in a panel form which helps to deliver a good footprint. cfl is like a coilled up t5 in bulb form.
The idea With t5 and cfl is to get the bulbs close but don't burn the leaves and adjust the height as the plant grows to promote stretch.

The difference in filter price probably does matter as you generally get what you pay for. Some of the cheaper ones are only designed to last 6 months whereas some of the rhino's and phat filters are made to last 24+

Sorry if I missed that about the tent. As for strains... I wouldn't know what to suggest? I'm still learning myself. I started with lowryder #2 but I think there are much better strains about now. Chronic Ryder was nice, Easy Ryder was a good producer Big Buddha automatic was quite potent... Lots out there, just look for something short.

Just typed a whole post out for it to get wiped when I logged in :cuss:

Anyway the jist of the post was that I think I will use CLFs as they seem the best option for me after some research. Im probably going to use some LST on my plants to maximise my grow space and counter my limiter height.

Just placed an order for OYNX and Dr Feelgood seeds witch the site says should grow around 50 - 90cm and 25 - 50cm. Does anyone think I would be able to squeeze them both in the tent or just the one?

Cheers for all the help so far, ill keep this post updated. :hump:

well onyx can go to 3ft high and 2ft wide so youve made life hard for your self as you needed air gap pot space and sevral inches of space from cfl to stop burning, your lower branches will get no light and you will have plenty of air bud on the lower 1-2ft as cfls have crap penertration

you will have to learn how to train ur plants not ideal on your first grow

why ask for advice if your just going to wing it anyway

I was talking to a friend earlier and he said as long as I LST my plant and dont have masses of lighting I should be able to maintain a suitable size. Do you really think it would get far to big? What about the Dr Feelgood, surely that would be suitable?

Sorry if it comes across as im not taking any advise, I think im just a bit too eager! :P
