During harvest of a very dense plant grown in peat/coco, i found a few bits of rot in a couple of buds. It was deep in the bud. Two not very good pics below.
I cut off the buds and the neighbouring buds and threw them out. I changed my gloves and then harvested the rest of the plant.Did i do enough? Any tips on how to spot any more quickly in drying buds? Lesson learned, don't be greedy, thin it out and get more fans!

Been there, done that. What I did was break the colas into individual buds before drying so that I could find the bad spots, chuck away anything bad or adjacent to bad, and dry the leftover clean buds on a screen. I didn't get fussy about contamination other than not getting my clippers into the nasty stuff. The bud I was left with was perfectly fine, but I lost about 1/3 of it by the time I was done, and I ended up drying the bud too quickly, so I got the evil grass hints. It still kicks butt, but by no means a gourmet experience, not that I would know.

Bottom line is that you are doing what you need to and then some, but I do think you need to break up the colas to make sure you don't miss the rot. In my opinion, you need to get rid of it before you try to dry the bud, and sadly, that means drying individual buds because as you found out, it hides in the larger clusters.

Good luck with it. :pighug:

Yes it sounds like you have done what you can. I also have been there and done that. Once I have cleared all of the rot. I do a good wet trim on the remaining bud and dry faster than normal if I can. Normal is 70°F / 50% RH. I go 78°F at 50%. It will dry a day or 2 faster. Once you get down to ~70% moisture content you can rest easier.

thank you. i will break them down a bit more. the RH is not bad here today but weekend is supposed to be thundery so i will have t speed drying up a bit.

As @Mañ'O'Green suggests, once the initial drying is well underway, the risk of more mold quickly declines. I'm guessing a bit here, but it is my impression that once the outsides of your bud feels dry to the touch, you are mostly out of the woods. With care, you should be able to save much or most of your harvest.

Good luck with it, and please let us know how you make out. :pighug:

thanks @Olderfart that's re-assuring. Going to keep a really close eye on them.... such a gorgeous plant she was too...
