Wasted Days and Wasted Nights
This is my first grow. I kept it simple, hoping to accomplish the basics and determine if I even have a green enough thumb to do this for fun. It's been all I hoped for in a first attempt.
I bought a 400 watt HPS and a charcoal filter, some
OF soil and some organic nutes. The rest I rummaged together in a spare closet = pretty low tech operation. It's kind of a hillbilly set up (I prefer rural vintage) but hey, it's a start. I planted one seed each of autoflower White Widow, Northern Lights, and Amnesia Haze. (seeds came from Bergman's Lab)
There were issues: heat stress at day 10, cal-mag deficiency just as flower sites were forming, and just trying to read the plants and sort out an effective feeding plan with no real experience to draw on. I've done a shit ton of reading and watching videos, but I wanted to test my own intuitions this first time out and see what happened. I learned a lot of things I can do better next time and am looking forward to putting some actual experience to work.
The Haze is now only a day or so away from harvest after 50 days. It produced 12 concentrated bud sites and looks to be a respectable yield (for all I know).
The Northern Lights is probably good for another couple of weeks as the bud structures are just starting to fill in. I did no cropping or LST and just started tucking fan leaves as soon as the flower sites popped (all part of my 'keep it simple stupid' mantra this time around). I did prune the low forming shoots as they appeared. I really want to try SCROG training next time to see if I can get mo' bigga buds all around.
Both the Haze and Lights topped out at 18 inches. One note for next time is to use bigger pots as I imagine these 1.8 gallon jobs have cramped these plants' styles a bit. Then again, the White Widow stands 33 inches and may still have some to go!
... and that's what's going on.
I hope my modest results mean that I can now join the auto-growers family with my head held high (literally and figuratively). I've had a blast watching these girls grow up. I'll follow up my report as they come in. I can't wait to partake!
