Hello all. Well here is the start of my first auto grow, and my first grow with the new box I built.

I took an old working frigidaire freezer and turned it into a sealed growing chamber. I am using the compressor to keep the area cool. I have a ranco ETC hooked up to the freezer, I have it set at 74 degrees F, with a differential temp of 6 degrees. This will keep the compressor from running to often and overheating.

My lighting will consist of a galaxy hydro 400(I think 400) led, and I may supplement with some cfl as well.

Since there will be no exhaust to refresh my air, I will supplement with co2. (Probably the ghetto 2 liter bottle deal) or maybe the co2 bags. I will also have a couple fans in there to keep the air moving.

Soil... I have not made a decision on soil yet. I am thinking roots organic original, or 707 with about 25% perlite added.

Thanks for allowing me to be apart of the forum and I am excited to see some awesome grow.

To add the ranco ETC was very simple. Just wire up some cord to the ETC, one from and outlet and one to the freezer. Then run the temp probe into the freezer where you will take the temp. Drilled hole in the freezer and ran my 110VAC inside the freezer for my outlet on a gfci. I have it all hooked up now and have been testing for about a week to make sure it will maintain and make sure the freezer will not over heat.

Keep your fingers crossed, but so far so good!!!

Oh boy, I love crazy grows like this! I hope it works out you seem to have it all worked out , well I seen it grown in a shower, toilet haha why not the fridge, I guess the only thing that jumped out at me is the lack of exhausted air, but you mention the co2 so again I think you know far more than me about it lol, subbed for the ride pal interested to see how it all goes

It is definitely an expirament. I haven't really seen anyone attempt this and succeed. If all else fails I will cut power to the freezer and run an exhaust fan. We will see how she turns out.

another thing I guess I might be concerned with is condensation ? Hell I don't know the only fridge expert I know works for hoover:biggrin: yea I sure hope you make this work:thumbsup: why can't you have an exhaust as well or would that negate the benefits of running the co2?

Condensation and humidity are the two problems I see myself running into. I have not figured out if or how I will deal with that yet lol.

I don't want to run an exhaust fan because I want to keep the freezer going to keep it cool. This will be out in my shed away from anyone that would see it. It gets hot out there. If I run the exhaust fan, the. I am pulling out all cool air with hot air, which would keep the freezer going all the time, unless I can isolate the light and just exhaust from the plant side. Which is also a possibility.

I had another cabinet going this summer, and couldn't get my temps below 90 with the heat. That was with a 6" exhaust fan on full blast with plenty of intake and three fans circulating air.

So I had this freezer sitting around and figured I would give it a shot. What the worst that could happen? Well possibly fire from the condenser or motor running too long. Haha. But more or less I would just lose the freezing capabilities. At who h point I can just run an exhaust fan.

I have not seen a full grow using this method. A lot of people saying will not work, but have either not tried it. A lot of brew people use this nether for a kegotator set up. But they also do not have a light puting out heat..

Yea I think you should go for it, not trying to talk you out of it, just got me to thinking, I have faded memories from sites gone past that tried something like it and I sure it was a success ,if you don't try ya don't get to see

Closed environments require exhaust. Why go through the trouble of an ingenious setup if its design already causes you foreseeable issues before you begin? Even with CO2, where would the O2 and humidity the plant produces go? I want this to work out, I haven't seen one before. I hear you about stealth and temps, Summer is hell.

I see your point.. I read in a couple places that they would just drill 1/8" holes to exhaust some air, but I do not see that working well. This particular freezer has a fan for the defroster in it, I could possibly delete that and add a cpu fan just to exhaust some of the air and also keep it from exhausting too much.
