My own shit, thanks to places like this!
For those of you who re-use (and amend) your soil, do you save the root ball?

What I mean is, do you let the roots dry up and just rotate them into the soil (as extra organic material)?

I'm about to hit my first harvest in a couple of weeks and I hate to waste quality soil. My mixture was Bruts Super Soil, Happy Frog and Ocean Forest.

I've been throwing my pruning leaves into my soil mixing area to rotate them back into the soil, it seems as though the roots would be a good addition too.

There are members that do "No Till" so you do not even need to disturb the root ball. Just leave it where it is and add the microbes to eat them.

If you have room for one of these then you can do a great rotation on your soil by 2 stage composting, and growing with 1/3, of your soil in each stage at any given time.

Think seriously about adding a product such as hygrozyme to your water mix. What it does is help break down things like, old roots, into something the plant can actually uptake. Enzymes & Mychorizzae are very important when reusing soils.

Great ideas! Thanks.

There is so much to learn. As I've mentioned, I am on my first grow (photos) and I am hooked. I wish my state allowed a "Give to Friends and Family" policy.

This early in the game, you might want to keep it one notch simpler with fresh soil. Once you learn how to keep the girls happy, you can play with soil recycling. In the meantime, the compost pile beckons. :pighug:
