I came across this article in “Cannabis Magazine” which is a Spanish Cannabis journal of which I am a subscriber.
We don’t see much about cannabis reform in Spain so I thought I would share it with you.
Hopefully I will make Spain my home one day so reforming cannabis regulation in Spain is dear to my heart.
RESPONSIBLE REGULATION INITIATIVE
AFTER A CONSTITUENT PROCESS FIVE MONTHS, MUCH OF CIVIL SOCIETY INVOLVED IN POLICY REFORM CANNABIS, IT HAS BEEN CALLED PLATFORM RESPONSIBLE CANNABIS REGULATION (RR), WITH THE AIM OF ACHIEVING THE NECESSARY LEGISLATIVE CHANGES FOR A COMPREHENSIVE REGULATION OF CANNABIS IN SPAIN IN 2017.
Last January 17 took place in Madrid the Constituent Assembly of the platform. The event, attended a total of 18 organizations that have been working for years in the phenomenon of cannabis and drug addiction. This meeting served to lay the groundwork for a formal constituent multidisciplinary initiative that aims to influence social and political level, with strong arguments in favor of the benefits to the whole of society that would be an effective regulation of cannabis in Spain.
In the said meeting, which put the end to a five-month preparatory work for the constitutional process, have laid the foundations for, among other issues pertinent increasing the voice and vote to civil society in the design of fairer policies related to the phenomenon of cannabis. During the weekend have agreed the possibilities and ways forward from the platform, both politically and legislative and social.
RR Aims to achieve the necessary legislative changes, from the perspective of Human Rights and Public Health, being the vehicle of expression of civil society to achieve a change in user perception of cannabis in different segments of the public. The platform has considered it vital to disclose qualified arguments to stop patent, the ineffectiveness of prohibition and repressive legislation on the subject at hand.
Some of those attending the Constituent Assembly Regulatory ResponsibleRR hold its second Workshop in May of this year in the city of San Sebastián (Gipuzkoa), where, among other relevant issues, will discuss the position of civil society opposite the position of the Government of Spain to the next meeting of the UNGASS in 2016, where the chief deliberative and public policy of the United Nations (UN), addressed an assessment of the principles and approaches the so-called "war on drugs."
