i am in the process of finishing up a grow.. i got a couple of dinafem cali hash plant, and power kush plants(regular photo) bout done..while growing these plants in the beginning of flowering, i took some short stuff mix males (autoflower) and pollinated the few pistals that were beginning to grow, now weeks later i have bud with seed in it.

now to the question, this is all just an experiment to me

lets say if plant 10 of these seed, with my math correct, 5 of them should auto???

dont really know what im gonna get nto this time round, need/want a lil input from people with breeding experience

i am wanting to retain the auto trait, but stll have the budding/trich characteristics of a regular srain, to improve potency/yiled to an autoflower seed

would love any input,

From what I understand the strains need to be similar ( indica/indica) for best results . It increases the ratio that may become auto in the offspring . There are a few people that have worked on this and I'm sure they will chime in.

i used 3 dif males from the short stuff mix to pollinate... so i am sure this is going to to be a cluster of pheno, thanks for the input

I don't believe you will see a 50% split. The first genration you are likely to get all photo plants possibly an auto or two. My understanding is at the 2nd cross back 2 auto you will start to see some become auto. If you use those as your breeding stock you can hopefully retain the auto trait quickly.

First cross (F1) you will be unlikely to find autos so should run them as photoperiod plants. Make seeds with these(F2) and hopefully 25% should be auto, breed them(F3) and most should auto, I think this is the time to really start selecting for specific traits.

Check my thread as I am in the middle of the F1 grow at the moment.

Hope it goes well:D

ok, so i understand there is more to making an all auto seed, than i thought.. i am un familier with the breeding lingo.

so if i take these seed, most with will be reg photo, now would i take more male pollin (auto) and pollinate these seed, more of the offspring will auto???

i didnt save any pollin from the previous grow, but i do have plrenty of reg auto seeds, i would like to add in a purple ryder, to add in a purple color and short stature of the plant, take one of these males to pollinate the first round of seed!?!?!
would this help in incresasing my auto off spring???

Hope this helps

Just so you know too the Auto trait is recessive and the Photo trait is dom.

i remember studying this in my middle years growing up in school, that was over 15 years ago

the diagram does help a little, thanks i luvindica

Breeding basics...

breeding auto hybrids is a long and tedious affair (years) since the photos are dominant.

i have however found a lot of interesting phenotypes among my autophoto f1 hybrids, phenotypes that have been cloned and ran both indoor and outdoor... quickness, hybrid vigor, high yields and so on are benefitial attributes that are often found among autophoto hybrids.
