I know @Mañ'O'Green talked about preserving terpenes while still decarboxylating. Could we get a guide maybe or does anyone have any advice? I know mog wrote about making gourmet edibles. I want to make the best edibles I can and that would start with the best extraction. I have a machine that can do 160f currently but would look into getting another one that is more versatile but have access to a dehydrator I can set to 80f to like 400f or something. Thanks again AFN. Also if there is a thread already like this link me to it and we can delete this if its repetitive.

I remember him mentioning decarbing in oil instead of a dry decarb. Less terpenes will evaporate off. Also freshly dried flower will have more flavor then cured flower

I use rosin for my edibles and MCT oil tincture. I decarb after mixing in oil for edibles, but only if not for sleep. For sleep, I decarb the rosin on its own for about 4x the recommended time for THC for the temperature involved. I have had MCT oil go seriously rancid when I tried to decarb for sleep after adding the rosin to oil. I had to chuck it because it tasted totally foul, as in poisonously foul. I did not want to ingest that oil even if somehow I could hide the taste. My current batch of tincture tastes mild and pleasant, and works (7 hours of straight sleep last night, for example), and it was decarbed as pure rosin before mixing. :pighug:

If I am going to use a plant for Eds, I will just let it dry in paper bags in the fridge. It does take awhile and will actually get nice and dry. Seems to retain the benefits of the plant this way. I don't like using a dehydrator personally.

As for the actual extraction. I use a source turbo and ethanol extraction. I decarb the extracted oil on a hot plate with magnetic stirrer. Once the decarb is complete, I add MCT at a 1:1 ratio. Draw up into syringes and then freeze them. Use them as needed.

I am pretty much exclusively gummies and sour gummies though. I Frankensteined a Haribo gummy clone recipe with an eds recipe and can pretty much get a spot on store bought gummy with almost zero "weediness" to them as far as flavors. Bonus points for them being shelf stable for about 9 months.
