I'm planning on starting a 5x5x6 room in my garage soon. I'm going to put a a Spider Farmer SF4000 in it. My garage gets pretty hot in the summer (90 degrees F). Between the light and weather I'm a little concerned about the heat and just have a few questions.

6" or 8" exhaust fan? Can an exhaust fan be TOO big?
Active or passive intake? How large should the intake be/ will one be enough? Do I need to filter the intake?
Is it possible or correct to use a portable air conditioning unit inside or outside the room?

Thanks everyone!

My suggestion is to seal it off air tight. Get a mini split or portable air conditioner to keep the environment cool. No matter how big the fan is, if you're pulling in 90° air from inside the garage, your temps will be much too hot.

Sounds good! Could I run a duct from my central air handler? It's on the other side of my garage wall.

Most likely your Central AC is not running often or long enough for the grow space. What is the RH when the air temp is 90°F Will an evaporative cooler work for you?

Go 8" with a fan equipped with a controller.

A/C Infinity T8 with controller, or, one controller and two T4's if you want to try a passive intake approach.

Given what you described, I agree that a sealed room with a mini split is the best option though.

One thought re. a sealed room if I may... What about CO2 supply? If the room is sealed up with a bunch of plants in it, CO2 will be used up in a hurry. Methinks if you seal, you will also need to use a CO2 supply.

OTOH, I may have missed something.
