Indoor question about harvesting?

ok this sunday my plants will be 14 weeks old these are my very first plant i have ever grown and i just learn about auto growing so these are photo grown plants this sunday also they will have been on 12/12 lighting and flowering for 7 weeks i don't have one of those scoop thing to check for the amber color where can i buy one ? and when is the best time to harvest should i wait another 5 weeks or less ? i'm in no hurry just wanted to know i read the cannabis grown bible by greg green and it says flowering is 10-12 weeks but i'm not sure a lot books could say one thing and it could be wrong so i wanted to ask since there is about 10% of the once white hairs are kind and orange-ish brown color i guess you can say amber the bud is 3 1/2 inches long and 1 /1/2 inches wide so i'm also so asking cause i heard you don't want it all to be amber and then i here yes wait for it to be all amber so i am really confused now on it well please help me out on this thank you

You want to go by the color of the "trichs" not the color of the hairs on the buds. The trichs are the THC glands that have little round heads that are either clear, milky, or amber. You really need some sort of magnification to see them. Most hydro shops have little scopes with lights on them. I've never grown photo plants but I think 7 weeks of flowering is not long enough. Hopefully some of the guys with photo experience will chime in on this. Hope this helps.

It's on Amazon. It cost me $15 and change so really it's a steal. That will help you see the trichs. Also depends on what kind of high you like. Energetic/Heady harvest earlier or if you like heavier couch lock harvest a little later. ZX is right... Don't go by the hairs. If you can't get your hands on a scope you can go by the fan leaves and sugar leaves. The fan leaves will start dying off and turn yellow. Then the sugar leaves will go yellow as well. Again I have to agree with ZX on the flowering time... Most photos will flower for 10-12 weeks some strains finish earlier, some later. If you know what strain it is and let us know I'm sure someone here has grown it and can help you with flowering time. I'm growing two Fem. Burmese Kush that I am vegging with my autos. On Herbie's site it says it's flowering time is 7 1/2 weeks but I know not all photos finish that fast. Hope that helps some and I'm sure one of the Masters will come in and give you more solid advice. Best of luck man!

Also be aware as far as the Amber goes... Most experienced growers will not tell you to wait until you get ALL Amber... Amber is not THC. It's actually the THC degrading. So you are getting a "false" high. More psychoactive. You will definitely want it mostly milky I believe and not so much Amber. I'm sure I will be corrected if I'm wrong but as far as my research goes that's what I gather...

hardly any photo strains finish at 7 weeks flower I would not even check until week 8 i harvest on hairs and thats done at 90% of the hairs being brown

so to me I would guess you have around 2 weeks left

Nikki, if nothing else, get you a magnifying glass at Wal-Mart.

WVR is right on the money. You want the trich's all cloudy with some amber in the trich's. As WVR said, once you see the amber color, there degrading. But that's also when the majority of the trich's are turning nice and milky.

I'd keep a close eye on them for the next couple of weeks. And if you can get a scope in that time frame, you'll see when to harvest her....
