Hello, This is the first time i've germed right into soil and not done the cup methode. so my question is i only have a 1000w light and right now i have it about 6 feet above pots and on and running. do i need to haev the lights on or do i leave it dark until they sprout? Thanks

All they really need is moisture & warmth. Some guys germ in the dark, some under lites. 1000w lite, I would germ in the dark.

Definitely protect a sprout and young seedling from the intensity of the 1000 watter....Personally I have a separate space for sprouts and seedlings under T5HO....

you dont need any light untill the sprout breaks the surface... then your 1000w should be 3 feet imo if its any farther the seedlings will strech and fall over... dont forget a fan, very important. Keep the soil moist till they appear, dont water on them, just around them, nothing wrong with the 1000w I use them all the time. Also I hope your heat is not a problem as 1000w give off alot of heat, heat is your enemy....

I sprouted seeds under a 1k many times. I would keep that light 5 feet away from them at first and keep your soil moist. They do just fine.

Looks like there is plenty of condensation in the buckets with the plastic over it.

well i had the 1000 on last night but since you guys say its cool to turn the light off so long as there is warmth *its warm lol* so i've done that

also below is a pic of what im doing

12x 5 gallon pots filled about 4 gallons worth of soil. R/O water to water with

I took our small trash bags and layed them all on there sides then put the pot of soil in side after watering and fliped the plastic over to keep the humidity in. Seems to be doing good. now i'll just cross my fingers that they sprout.
