Hi all

I was hoping to hear from some of the experts here on afn concerning issues with cooling a grow tent.
My current grow I am setting up is in a terribly hot climate (Arizona) and summer is coming. I also have never used a tent for flowering.

How can I cool my 8x4 tent when temps outside are over 100 for 3 months straight? I have the tent in an 11x9 room and was thinking about running a portable ac unit in the tent. But then I would be exhausting warm air back into the grow room. The dual hose units would work, as I could seal off the bedroom and just push cold air in and exhaust warm back outside through the window.

However, these dual hose units run around 500 or more and is out of my budget. Do I have any other options? Would love to put the funds towards a COB project. But my evaporative cooler in my house just isn't going to cut it.

Any ideas are welcomed. Hell I was thinking it would be fun to buy a freezer and a bunch of those freezer packs. Somehow fix them to the inside walls igloo style

First you can run the lights at night when the temps are cooler. Good luck. Oh and the portable ac with the one duct is a duct just for exhaust which you can still put out the window and cool the growroom.

Ah hah, thanks island. Just saw a used portable 8,000 btu on CL for 80 bucks.

Now that I think about it, the tent will be three feet from the wondow. I should just get a window unit and draw air in from the cooled bedroom. If my lights run around 93 degrees air cooled (pair of 600 w hps) a 10,000 btu window unit should be able to cool down the bedroom to 72 ish. And the tent to 80. I hope....

May be a wiser investment to switch to a CMH setup for the sake of heat. Will not be easy getting those temps under 80 running hps

Should be possible with a window unit like that and with the window unit the drain is outside the house so No need to find a way to drain the portable ac unit indoors.

I would imagine that you have low humidity in AZ, so buy a portable swamp cooler. I've had one for several years that I use during summer. It works well. I set up a timer and it's ready to go. If you do buy one, make sure it holds enough water for what you require.

That would seem logical. I have a swamp cooler in my house, a lot of folks around here do.

But from mid to late june humidity builds. Monsoon season starts in july and we get pounded with heavy rains, sometimes every day for a week or two before they stop and then start up again.
After rains with 100 degree temps I can tell you that damn swamp cooler isn't doing any good! I sweat my balls off during monsoon season. It lasts into late august and early sept.

Ever walk into an oven that was also a sauna? That's what it feels like!
I am looking to purchase a 10,000 btu window unit off CL so I can save myself a few bucks. But they sell fast around here!

On second thought, that portable swamp cooler may work. If I pair it with a dehumidifier which I will probably need, I may get results. My goal is to get cooler and more energy efficient and eventually build a nice cob setup. Pricing up some 315w cmh setups and putting the 600w hps up for sale on cl. Trying to find a solid cmh for under 300 if i can. I can save myself some serious money if these bad boys run 65% cooler as I have read.

Get cooler and more efficient now that's where it's at. Sorry high pressure sodiums but I gotta move on. I shall always remember you :hookah:
