So I cant seem to find anything on the interwebs about how to handle your soil.
And it might be a no brainer and I'm just oblivious :smoking: <--- I do a lot of this lol

But what do you do with the soil?
Obviously you wanna check the pH and make sure it's within range, and obviously if you're growing an auto, you want to use a low nute/seedling soil or mix the stronger soil with one that's lighter (like using FFOF and cutting it with FFHF and perlite..lots of perlite lol)

So lets just pretend here for a sec, lol. you went ahead and opened the bags of soil, mixed it together (if needed) with another lighter soil, pH is in range, and all thats left is the actual planting of the seeds.

Should I water the pots until I see run off and then plant? I feel like that'd put waaay too much water in the soil and potentially kill the seed before it ever even breaks the soil. Do I water the pots until I see run off, and leave them to dry out a little bit for a day or two to avoid killing the seed? Do I just pour the soil out of the bags, mix it up, check pH and plant? lol Jesus, I've been growing now for what, 3 years? You'd think I'd know the answer to this by now lol but ive killed too many seeds and I'm not trying to kill anymore lol

Hey dude, if your growing autos in soil its easier to just buy a light soil. Like biobizz lightmix or plagron lightmix if you can get it.
Its up to you if you want to add perlite i normally add it in at around 25% i also add a tablespoon of garden lime to every gallon of soil to help prevent the soil from becoming acidic later in the grow.
As for pre watering i just pour a little in the centre like 100ml and plant the seed in the wet bit. Then dont rewater until the seed pops up, unless your environment is especially warm and dry. Just leep the soil moist- not drenched for the first few days.

Also that little meatball is a coconut used for dudes that grow in coco.
Happy germinating my friend

I germinate different than you. I use root riot cubes and follow Ronin's process to germ.
https://www.autoflower.org/threads/germination-the-ronin-way.33891/
I have 100% germ rates doing this.
So I just prefilled my pots and use a spare single plastic root riot holder to put in the soil where the cube and sprout will eventually go. The soil is still dry, but this creates a nice mold for my sprout. When my sprout is ready to plant. I remove the mold, put the cube/sprout in the hole, lightly backfill and cover the cube. Then water just around the cube. The amount of water varies depending on how light my soil is, but I like to get a little drip coming out of the bottom center of my smart pot. I want that tap rot to get to the bottom of the pot as quickly as possible. Usually don't saturate the entire pot until I get a few sets of leaves. Usually around my second or third nutrient feeding (day 15-20). This is what's has worked for me. I hope it helps.

I don't pre-treat my soil and have not had an issue with any plants so far. I use FFOF and add 15-20% perlite to improve drainage. I germinate in jiffy peat pellet and when it breaks soil I pot in the final container. Once potted in the container I water with a cup or two of water to get the soil around the pellet wet to encourage the tap root to start branching out in search of the water.
