Possible Root Rot? need help

setup: 2 afghan rhyder, 2 auto-ak grown in 1.5" netpots in a small dwc setup. ph is usually between 5.8-6.8. adding light grow nutes once every 5 days. they're currently on day 18 from

browning on the roots has appeared twice, both times were the morning after I added nutrients. daily treatments h202 has helped bring them back to white, but it seems to keep coming back. also, I've added hygrozyme each time I replace the water in the res. Can anyone tell me if this is root rot, or if not what it is and if I should worry about it? Notice the browning on the edges of the leaves.

thanks

I know that when i used hygrozyme in my dwc bucket it would stain the roots a brown color. I don't see any slime on those roots so i'm guessing it's just the hygrozyme staining them...

can we see a picture of what her top looks like?

and by the way..hope you're not adding in the h202 in with the hygrozyme. if you are you are killing the beneficial microbes and is probably why you see them going back to white after you add it as it's probably kiling off the hygrozyme in your bucket... use the h2o2 as a way to kill any bad stuff floating in your rez only, (like brown slime if you see any) then add back the nutes with hygrozyme in a fresh res change.

hows your bucket smell by the way? any potato smells coming from there? if so that is another indication of root rot.

When things really start growing in the root department i like to wash my buckets out at least twice a month with hot water and h202. That way i know nothing is building up in there.

I also use Zone now as my root conditioner instead of hygrozyme. It is an excellent product for roots and helps stabalize in a warm rez as well, making root rot a non exsistant problem. It also leaves my roots nice and white throughout the whole grow.

hope any of this helps

there's a second pic in that album I linked to that shows a pic of the top with the leaves. The brown spots on the leaves are my main concern.

I'm actually not sure of the nutes. The growbox I bought came with some unlabelled grow and flower nutes so I'm doing the cheap thing and using those (ik it's not the best idea but it was free haha). and idk what cal mag is, I only have nutes, h202, and hygrozym in my water. And no I didn't intentionally use h202 and hygrozyme together, I added hygrozyme once I thought the browning was gone the first time, but then it came back so I started the h202 again. If it were just the nutes staining the roots, that would be GREAT news for me, but the browning on the leaves makes me think it might be something worse.

well not knowing what kind of nutes you got is a real bummer. how much of these mystery nutes are you using each feeding, and how often are you feeding/changing rez?

and that hygrozyme is not a nutrient...it's a product made from natural ingredients that produce a supply of bacteria free enzymes and complex chain of amino acids. I only say that could be the cause of your brown roots because it did that to me as well. but again, i don't see any slime on your roots so im guessing you don't have the rot.

I'm gonna take a stab and say you need to get yourself some cal mag in there by the looks of those leaves... if i'm wrong im sure someone will chime in here and correct me...

but first tell us what kind of water you are using. please say RO or at least distilled if you are doing dwc...

I agree, not knowing the nutes is annoying, I think I may just go out and buy some name brand stuff soon. I use tap water through a Brita filter, then let it sit overnight. And i know what hygrozyme is, but I read in a couple different places that it could help with root rot or other problems, so I figured I'd buy it and give it a shot. So what exactly is cal mag?

Man, I can't help you with the root rot but if you are using nutes you are not sure about, I would chunk them. You can go to a garden center and buy off the shelf fertilizer that do real well. I know I may catch hell for this but it's my opinion that most of the nutes out there for growing weed are over rated. If you think about it we are growing plants that can't tell one name brand fertilizer from another. I have heard balanced nutrients geared to growing tomatoes work well.

I don't have any experience, so anyone else's word is definitely appreciated, but I do feel like marijuana has specific needs for different nutrients at different times. So I'd probably go to my local hydro store and pick up some name brand stuff.

hygrozyme is a preventative for root rot, not necessarily a cure if you already have it. You should be using it or a product like it from the start of your grow.

depending on the kind of nutes you decide to get you may not need the cal mag. I use dutch master nutes and there is plently of calcium and magneseum in those nutes, therefore i don't have to add any additional. Too much will cause a nute lock out and not enough will start making your plants unhealthy.

when you go to the hydro store ask them for nutes that have enough cal mag in them where you won't have to add any. Don't let them sell you high priced AN stuff, there are cheaper alternatives that work just as well.

I'm guessing you don't have a tdh meter? how much food are you feeding? what's the ppm of your water before you add the nutes? might want to pick up a meter so you know these things as well

look at this thread and read on through...lots of info that will help you out and make it easier for you to diagnose your plants yourself. http://www.autoflower.org/f7/basic-deficiencies-list-11.html
