Apologies if this has been addressed elsewhere, I haven't found exactly what I'm looking for thus far.

For example I will use Strains A and B.

I reverse strain A with CS and collect pollen. I then pollinate a strain B female with strain A's feminized pollen. Is this a legitimate way of making a cross?

Will the resulting seed be feminized? And if both are Autos I assume it is more likely they become mostly stable auto flowering genetics. Obviously taking them to at least F4 would be necessary but I figure I'd ask.

I can't think of another way to hybridize two strains without a lot more work, specifically feminized genetics.

I've grown for a long time now but breeding is brand new to me. Thanks for any help in advance!

Hello Thefarmer1, here are some answers, at least theoretical.
I also don't have real experience with pollen chucking yet, in a week time it will be different:)

Tf1 - "I reverse strain A with CS and collect pollen. I then pollinate a strain B female with strain A's feminized pollen. Is this a legitimate way of making a cross?"
Yes, it's one way of making crosses.

Tf1 - "Will the resulting seed be feminized?"
Should be if everything was done right.

Tf1 - "And if both are Autos I assume it is more likely they become mostly stable auto flowering genetics."
They will be autos. Stable? Depends what you mean. Expect variations if you don't use true breeding parents.

Tf1 - "Obviously taking them to at least F4 would be necessary but I figure I'd ask."
This is true for 'auto x photo' or 'photo x auto' crosses, auto x auto should stay auto.

Tf1 - "I can't think of another way to hybridize two strains without a lot more work, specifically feminized genetics."
It's the simplest way, obviously not the best one but still ok.

I have in plan to drop 'af' fem pollen on some of the plants, they are 2 Diesel ryders(reg seeds) and maybe some other strains.

Thanks for the thorough answer! Everything I needed to know.

I've been thinking of picking up some Diesel Ryder, I've seen quite a few people breed with it. Have you had any hermie issues with them?

Edit: also, :slap: for ya.

I don't know of hermie issues, the DR I have is not the 'original' but a remake, there is more variation. It's my first time growing them so can't say nothing for sure for now, the seed maker probably used only good ones I guess.
The two I have now are different looking and smelling, both will get the pollen.

Thanks for the rep! :passit:

No problem!

Diesel in general is prone to hermies, but if you're hitting them with pollen it shouldn't be an issue as you've fulfilled it's #1 goal. Might be something to look out for just incase when selecting the next gen.

Good luck with your project and thanks again x100!

I have done quiet a few crosses and I know every one talks about going out like 4 or 5 F generations but your F1 cross will be pretty stable if both parents are stable. My last auto cross was very stable and a great 50/50 mix of both parents. Very little differences between plants. I am going to F2 as we speak with this strain which is were the instability will happen.

Yeah I'm going to start with just auto x autos but I'd eventually like to try some auto x photo crosses with a few photo strains that aren't available in auto form.

That is my end goal to but I have a long way to go with my auto cross that I want to use first. I am going to cross with U-Pink kush to try to get the pink and purple hairs in to my auto along with the great smell the strain has. Going to be a lot of work. I am working on getting males that are as purple as my avatar. My purple cross now is part of this project.

One more questions for my breeder friends! Figured I'd stick it here instead of creating a new topic...

When breeding photos, you have the opportunity to veg plants out and clone the plants and then finish them out to see potency, taste, vigor, etc... With autos you can't really see the end product before pollinating. I guess my question is how do you guys select for breeding if you can't really tell what the end product will be like? You just have to gamble on what the plant looks like from seed to preflower and then pollinate?

Numbers are your friends. The more parents you have to select from the better. I kill a lot of plants. A friend of mine has a problem with this and thinks I am crazy every time I kill one. If you can only grow 16 plants than start 16 and select the best mother and father from these 2. I have just grew like 6 though and made a selection from them due to space though or a lack of seeds cuz there at least $10 a piece and I was almost out. Males are the hard part. If I don't like a selection I will kill them and start over. Seriously at like day 50 I have just said F### it and started over. Why finish if you don't like the parents. I have also grown out seeds and not liked the out come and gave all my seeds away cuz I was not going to grow them again. I try to cross using one father from a strain I like a lot and I will cross it with at least 2 other strains so I get different outcomes. My last Photo cross was fem using Girl scout cookies (platinum cut) crossed with self, Chocolate chunk and purple diesel. The Purple diesel was the only cross I liked and I gave every thing else away. Don't grow things your not proud of.
