Hi all. Im looking for someone(s) to assist me in deciding what grow medium and nutes to use for my current grow of sweet mango (greenhouse), la musa (delicious), auto blueberry (dna) and sugar mango ryder (world of seeds). My seedlings are 4 days from seed pop and this is my first grow of autos. I may have made a mistake by starting them as i normally would if growing photos... in a seedling tray with peat/coco mix and no nutes. i will take extra care in transplanting but im anticipating some stunting from my mistake. My plan for this grow is to use organic nutes, and to place the plants outside after sex is established. Im unsure if i should use 3 or 5 gallon containers as well. I will have no problem keeping them watered, but i am looking for maximum yield. As for medium i am considering fox farm ocean forest, original or light warrior with some added perlite. For organic nutes i am considering:
metanaturals grow/bloom
liquid karma
maxi crop
cal-mag
pure blend
budswell/super tea

Any master auto growers out there have any suggestions for me? I would appreciate anyone's :2cents: on the subject of pot size, grow medium or nutes. Am i even on the right track here?I have used all of the above nutes (with the exception of metanaturals) at one time or another when i was growing photos but i lost my notes over the years that contained my feeding program and which nutes i saw best results with. Any and all help will be greatly appreciated! :help: Thanks for checking this out! I love this site and wish i had found it along time ago!

Sorry for the long post...just wanted to make sure i supply enough info for you all. Thanks again!

Howdy and welcome :howdy: Let's get to work. A lot of people on this site have great results with a method called tiered planting. Cut the bottom out of a 18 oz party cup, place it into another party cup with drainage holes cut in the bottom, fill with a light, nute free soil like light warrior and plant your seedlings in there. After they sex just slide the bottom cup off and plant the top cup into your final pot. Bam, low stress transplant. Autos have no real time for recovery so any stunting drastically decreases yield. Sounds like you're doing okay if you already started them in nute free soil. Wait until the have two full sets of real leaves then feed them 1/8 strength grow nutes with a light dose of liquid karma. Autos respond more to pot size than photos so go ahead and use the five gallons if you're going for max yield. The ocean forest should work fine, I add dolomite lime, EWC and kelp to my ocean forest when growing autos. Keep them inside under lights until they show sex, then transplant to their new pots outdoors.

Keep in mind autos are way, way more sensitive to nutes than photos, so use sparingly. Less is more.

Here's a quicky I did on organic soil mixing, keep in mind this batch was for photos so it's likely too hot for autos.

My advice is dont mix nutrients make sure the maxicrop is extract only if using other organic nutes and dont use to much random stuff it will hurt you in the long run
I still like biobizz nutrient wise not a big fan of organic compost but foxfarm does get good reviews

as for seedlings a touch of extract can give seedlings a boost as theres very little NPK

Howdy MrPiggy and many thanks for the reply! I plan on using the tiered planting method (never knew thats what it was called!) to get the plants out of that seedling tray. Thanks for the pot size and medium recommendations too! I think i will go with the 5g pots and the ocean forest. Have you ever used pro-mix? its much easier for me to obtain than FF and it may be cheaper but i like what FF has in it to start with. I do like to feed the soil too, but will i experience similar results using the FF mix as is, and then watering in kelp and EWC's? I just think that i might be able to better control the feedings/strength if i water in the ferts? thanks again! im going to check out the links that you posted now :peace:

Thanks for commenting Agito! i dont know much about biobizz nutrients so i will do a little research into it. I see that you have a link in your signature that i will check out. what type of grow medium do you use/suggest? thanks again for the post! AFN is a GREAT site! :toke:

The Promix would probably be easier to work with starting out and as far as organic nutes go Iguana Juice by Advanced Nutrients is an easy two part veg and bloom. I've used it with organic grows before and saw some explosive growth with it. If you use the FF soil just make sure you don't give any nutes for the first two weeks.

thanks for the reply JasL! i will look into the iguana juice.

Curious to read this, as I used a Pro-Mix like soil (Lambert LM3) for my first auto grow, I was thinking about trying out FFOF for my second grow.

thank you Sniper420! Thats a great mix of things and seems really simple to use. My one concern with using that and Agitos suggestion of using Biobizz would be that they contain blood meal and fish respectively... i have heard that both can attract animals and encourage them to dig in an outdoor grow. Any thoughts on this? thanks again
